And they passed over Jordan, and pitched in Aro´er, on the right side of the city that lieth in the midst of the river of Gad, and toward Jazer:


So they hired thirty and two thousand chariots, and the king of Ma´achah and his people; who came and pitched before Me´deba. And the children of Ammon gathered themselves together from their cities, and came to battle.


And Heshbon shall cry, and Ele-a´leh; their voice shall be heard even unto Jahaz: therefore the armed soldiers of Moab shall cry out; his life shall be grievous unto him.


For Heshbon was the city of Sihon the king of the Amorites, who had fought against the former king of Moab, and taken all his land out of his hand, even unto Arnon.


And this land, which we possessed at that time, from Aro´er, which is by the river Arnon, and half mount Gil´e-ad, and the cities thereof, gave I unto the Reubenites and to the Gadites.


Sihon king of the Amorites, who dwelt in Heshbon, and ruled from Aro´er, which is upon the bank of the river Arnon, and from the middle of the river, and from half Gil´e-ad, even unto the river Jabbok, which is the border of the children of Ammon;


And Moses gave unto the tribe of the children of Reuben inheritance according to their families.


Heshbon, and all her cities that are in the plain; Dibon, and Ba´moth–ba´al, and Beth–ba´al–me´on,


from Aro´er, that is upon the bank of the river Arnon, and the city that is in the midst of the river, and all the plain of Me´deba unto Dibon;


For Moses had given the inheritance of two tribes and a half tribe on the other side Jordan: but unto the Levites he gave none inheritance among them.


But the Levites have no part among you; for the priesthood of the Lord is their inheritance: and Gad, and Reuben, and half the tribe of Manas´seh, have received their inheritance beyond Jordan on the east, which Moses the servant of the Lord gave them.


while Israel dwelt in Heshbon and her towns, and in Aro´er and her towns, and in all the cities that be along by the coasts of Arnon, three hundred years? why therefore did ye not recover them within that time?


and to them which were in Aro´er, and to them which were in Siphmoth, and to them which were in Eshtemo´a,
