And Lot went out, and spake unto his sons-in-law, which married his daughters, and said, Up, get you out of this place; for the Lord will destroy this city. But he seemed as one that mocked unto his sons-in-law.


And he also rebelled against king Nebuchadnez´zar, who had made him swear by God: but he stiffened his neck, and hardened his heart from turning unto the Lord God of Israel.


Thou hast rebuked the proud that are cursed, which do err from thy commandments.


The Lord shall cut off all flattering lips, and the tongue that speaketh proud things:


Our soul is exceedingly filled with the scorning of those that are at ease, and with the contempt of the proud.


And Pharaoh said, Who is the Lord, that I should obey his voice to let Israel go? I know not the Lord, neither will I let Israel go.


As yet exaltest thou thyself against my people, that thou wilt not let them go?


Every one that is proud in heart is an abomination to the Lord: though hand join in hand, he shall not be unpunished.


lest I be full, and deny thee, and say, Who is the Lord? or lest I be poor, and steal, and take the name of my God in vain.

The fear of the Lord is to hate evil: pride, and arrogancy, and the evil way, and the froward mouth, do I hate.


And the head of E´phra-im is Samaria, and the head of Samaria is Remali´ah's son. If ye will not believe, surely ye shall not be established.


The Lord sent a word into Jacob, and it hath lighted upon Israel.


Hear ye, and give ear; be not proud: for the Lord hath spoken.


Then said they, Come, and let us devise devices against Jeremiah; for the law shall not perish from the priest, nor counsel from the wise, nor the word from the prophet. Come, and let us smite him with the tongue, and let us not give heed to any of his words.


then they came to Gedali´ah to Mizpah, even Ish´ma-el the son of Nethani´ah, and Jo´hanan and Jonathan the sons of Kare´ah, and Serai´ah the son of Tan´humeth, and the sons of E´phai the Netoph´athite, and Jezani´ah the son of a Ma-ach´athite, they and their men.


Then took Jo´hanan the son of Kare´ah, and all the captains of the forces that were with him, all the remnant of the people whom he had recovered from Ish´ma-el the son of Nethani´ah, from Mizpah, after that he had slain Gedali´ah the son of Ahi´kam, even mighty men of war, and the women, and the children, and the eunuchs, whom he had brought again from Gibeon:


because of the Chalde´ans: for they were afraid of them, because Ish´ma-el the son of Nethani´ah had slain Gedali´ah the son of Ahi´kam, whom the king of Babylon made governor in the land.


Then all the captains of the forces, and Jo´hanan the son of Kare´ah, and Jezani´ah the son of Hoshai´ah, and all the people from the least even unto the greatest, came near,


For ye dissembled in your hearts, when ye sent me unto the Lord your God, saying, Pray for us unto the Lord our God; and according unto all that the Lord our God shall say, so declare unto us, and we will do it.


Then they said to Jeremiah, The Lord be a true and faithful witness between us, if we do not even according to all things for the which the Lord thy God shall send thee to us.


And it came to pass, that when Jeremiah had made an end of speaking unto all the people all the words of the Lord their God, for which the Lord their God had sent him to them, even all these words,


As for the word that thou hast spoken unto us in the name of the Lord, we will not hearken unto thee.


But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.


Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble.
