And they slew every one his man: and the Syrians fled; and Israel pursued them: and Ben–ha´dad the king of Syria escaped on a horse with the horsemen.


But it came to pass in the seventh month, that Ish´ma-el the son of Nethani´ah, the son of Elish´ama, of the seed royal, came, and ten men with him, and smote Gedali´ah, that he died, and the Jews and the Chaldees that were with him at Mizpah.


that the wicked is reserved to the day of destruction? They shall be brought forth to the day of wrath.


A man that doeth violence to the blood of any person shall flee to the pit; let no man stay him.


So all the people that Ish´ma-el had carried away captive from Mizpah cast about and returned, and went unto Jo´hanan the son of Kare´ah.


Then arose Ish´ma-el the son of Nethani´ah, and the ten men that were with him, and smote Gedali´ah the son of Ahi´kam the son of Shaphan with the sword, and slew him, whom the king of Babylon had made governor over the land.


And when the barbarians saw the venomous beast hang on his hand, they said among themselves, No doubt this man is a murderer, whom, though he hath escaped the sea, yet vengeance suffereth not to live.


And David smote them from the twilight even unto the evening of the next day: and there escaped not a man of them, save four hundred young men, which rode upon camels, and fled.
