Afterward I came unto the house of Shemai´ah the son of Delai´ah the son of Mehet´abeel, who was shut up; and he said, Let us meet together in the house of God, within the temple, and let us shut the doors of the temple: for they will come to slay thee; yea, in the night will they come to slay thee.


Thou hast put away mine acquaintance far from me; thou hast made me an abomination unto them: I am shut up, and I cannot come forth.


Then Pashur smote Jeremiah the prophet, and put him in the stocks that were in the high gate of Benjamin, which was by the house of the Lord.


and I gave the evidence of the purchase unto Baruch the son of Neri´ah, the son of Ma-asei´ah, in the sight of Han´ameel mine uncle's son, and in the presence of the witnesses that subscribed the book of the purchase, before all the Jews that sat in the court of the prison.


For then the king of Babylon's army besieged Jerusalem: and Jeremiah the prophet was shut up in the court of the prison, which was in the king of Judah's house.


Moreover the word of the Lord came unto Jeremiah the second time, while he was yet shut up in the court of the prison, saying,


Wherefore the princes were wroth with Jeremiah, and smote him, and put him in prison in the house of Jonathan the scribe; for they had made that the prison.


So Jeremiah abode in the court of the prison until the day that Jerusalem was taken: and he was there when Jerusalem was taken.


Then took they Jeremiah, and cast him into the dungeon of Malchi´ah the son of Ham´melech, that was in the court of the prison: and they let down Jeremiah with cords. And in the dungeon there was no water, but mire: so Jeremiah sunk in the mire.


And now, behold, I loose thee this day from the chains which were upon thine hand. If it seem good unto thee to come with me into Babylon, come; and I will look well unto thee: but if it seem ill unto thee to come with me into Babylon, forbear: behold, all the land is before thee: whither it seemeth good and convenient for thee to go, thither go.


Are they ministers of Christ? (I speak as a fool,) I am more; in labors more abundant, in stripes above measure, in prisons more frequent, in deaths oft.


For this cause I Paul, the prisoner of Jesus Christ for you Gentiles,


for which I am an ambassador in bonds; that therein I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak.


wherein I suffer trouble, as an evildoer, even unto bonds; but the word of God is not bound.


and others had trial of cruel mockings and scourgings, yea, moreover of bonds and imprisonment:
