And he answered, I have not troubled Israel; but thou, and thy father's house, in that ye have forsaken the commandments of the Lord, and thou hast followed Ba´alim.


Then came Shemai´ah the prophet to Rehobo´am, and to the princes of Judah, that were gathered together to Jerusalem because of Shishak, and said unto them, Thus saith the Lord, Ye have forsaken me, and therefore have I also left you in the hand of Shishak.


So the Edomites revolted from under the hand of Judah unto this day. The same time also did Libnah revolt from under his hand; because he had forsaken the Lord God of his fathers.


And it came to pass, as he talked with him, that the king said unto him, Art thou made of the king's counsel? forbear; why shouldest thou be smitten? Then the prophet forbare, and said, I know that God hath determined to destroy thee, because thou hast done this, and hast not hearkened unto my counsel.


The transgression of the wicked saith within my heart, that there is no fear of God before his eyes.


And the children of Israel stripped themselves of their ornaments by the mount Horeb.


Therefore shall they eat of the fruit of their own way, and be filled with their own devices.


For the turning away of the simple shall slay them, and the prosperity of fools shall destroy them.


His own iniquities shall take the wicked himself, and he shall be holden with the cords of his sins.


The show of their countenance doth witness against them; and they declare their sin as Sodom, they hide it not. Woe unto their soul! for they have rewarded evil unto themselves.


And now go to; I will tell you what I will do to my vineyard: I will take away the hedge thereof, and it shall be eaten up; and break down the wall thereof, and it shall be trodden down:


Thus saith the Lord, Where is the bill of your mother's divorcement, whom I have put away? or which of my creditors is it to whom I have sold you? Behold, for your iniquities have ye sold yourselves, and for your transgressions is your mother put away.


And I will utter my judgments against them touching all their wickedness, who have forsaken me, and have burned incense unto other gods, and worshipped the works of their own hands.


And if thou say in thine heart, Wherefore come these things upon me? For the greatness of thine iniquity are thy skirts discovered, and thy heels made bare.


Hast thou not procured this unto thyself, in that thou hast forsaken the Lord thy God, when he led thee by the way?


Return, ye backsliding children, and I will heal your backslidings. Behold, we come unto thee; for thou art the Lord our God.


Thy way and thy doings have procured these things unto thee; this is thy wickedness, because it is bitter, because it reacheth unto thine heart.


Fear ye not me? saith the Lord: will ye not tremble at my presence, which have placed the sand for the bound of the sea by a perpetual decree, that it cannot pass it: and though the waves thereof toss themselves, yet can they not prevail; though they roar, yet can they not pass over it?


Neither say they in their heart, Let us now fear the Lord our God, that giveth rain, both the former and the latter, in his season: he reserveth unto us the appointed weeks of the harvest.


Wherefore a lion out of the forest shall slay them, and a wolf of the evenings shall spoil them, a leopard shall watch over their cities: every one that goeth out thence shall be torn in pieces: because their transgressions are many, and their backslidings are increased.


Do they provoke me to anger? saith the Lord: do they not provoke themselves to the confusion of their own faces?


Why then is this people of Jerusalem slidden back by a perpetual backsliding? they hold fast deceit, they refuse to return.


I will do these things unto thee, because thou hast gone a whoring after the heathen, and because thou art polluted with their idols.


According to their uncleanness and according to their transgressions have I done unto them, and hid my face from them.


And my people are bent to backsliding from me: though they called them to the Most High, none at all would exalt him.


O Israel, thou hast destroyed thyself; but in me is thine help.


O Israel, return unto the Lord thy God; for thou hast fallen by thine iniquity.


For Israel slideth back as a backsliding heifer: now the Lord will feed them as a lamb in a large place.


And the pride of Israel doth testify to his face: therefore shall Israel and E´phra-im fall in their iniquity; Judah also shall fall with them.


And they consider not in their hearts that I remember all their wickedness: now their own doings have beset them about; they are before my face.


Rejoice not, O Israel, for joy, as other people: for thou hast gone a whoring from thy God, thou hast loved a reward upon every cornfloor.


and I will turn your feasts into mourning, and all your songs into lamentation; and I will bring up sackcloth upon all loins, and baldness upon every head; and I will make it as the mourning of an only son, and the end thereof as a bitter day.


For the transgression of Jacob is all this, and for the sins of the house of Israel. What is the transgression of Jacob? is it not Samaria? and what are the high places of Judah? are they not Jerusalem?


But they refused to hearken, and pulled away the shoulder, and stopped their ears, that they should not hear.


there is no fear of God before their eyes.


Yet ye have forsaken me, and served other gods: wherefore I will deliver you no more.
