besides that he had of the merchantmen, and of the traffic of the spice merchants, and of all the kings of Arabia, and of the governors of the country.


and they buried him; and all Israel mourned for him, according to the word of the Lord, which he spake by the hand of his servant Ahi´jah the prophet.


He restored the coast of Israel from the entering of Hamath unto the sea of the plain, according to the word of the Lord God of Israel, which he spake by the hand of his servant Jonah, the son of Amit´tai, the prophet, which was of Gath–he´pher.


And the sons of Jeconi´ah; Assir, Sala´thi-el his son,


And the sons of Pedai´ah were, Zerub´babel, and Shim´e-i: and the sons of Zerub´babel; Meshul´lam, and Hanani´ah, and Shelo´mith their sister:

And among the sons of the priests there were found that had taken strange wives: namely, of the sons of Jesh´u-a the son of Joz´adak, and his brethren; Ma-asei´ah, and Eli-e´zer, and Jarib, and Gedali´ah.


which came with Zerub´babel: Jesh´u-a, Nehemi´ah, Serai´ah, Re-elai´ah, Mor´decai, Bilshan, Mizpar, Big´vai, Rehum, Ba´anah. The number of the men of the people of Israel:


And the Tirsha´tha said unto them, that they should not eat of the most holy things, till there stood up a priest with Urim and with Thummim.


Then stood up Jesh´u-a the son of Joz´adak, and his brethren the priests, and Zerub´babel the son of She-al´ti-el, and his brethren, and builded the altar of the God of Israel, to offer burnt offerings thereon, as it is written in the law of Moses the man of God.


Now in the second year of their coming unto the house of God at Jerusalem, in the second month, began Zerub´babel the son of She-al´ti-el, and Jesh´u-a the son of Joz´adak, and the remnant of their brethren the priests and the Levites, and all they that were come out of the captivity unto Jerusalem; and appointed the Levites, from twenty years old and upward, to set forward the work of the house of the Lord.


then they came to Zerub´babel, and to the chief of the fathers, and said unto them, Let us build with you: for we seek your God, as ye do; and we do sacrifice unto him since the days of Esar–had´don king of Assyria, which brought us up hither.


Then ceased the work of the house of God which is at Jerusalem. So it ceased unto the second year of the reign of Dari´us king of Persia.


Then the prophets, Hag´gai the prophet, and Zechari´ah the son of Iddo, prophesied unto the Jews that were in Judah and Jerusalem in the name of the God of Israel, even unto them.


At the same time came to them Tat´nai, governor on this side the river, and She´thar–boz´nai, and their companions, and said thus unto them, Who hath commanded you to build this house, and to make up this wall?


And the elders of the Jews builded, and they prospered through the prophesying of Hag´gai the prophet and Zechari´ah the son of Iddo. And they builded, and finished it, according to the commandment of the God of Israel, and according to the commandment of Cyrus, and Dari´us, and Artaxerx´es king of Persia.


Now these are the priests and the Levites that went up with Zerub´babel the son of She-al´ti-el, and Jesh´u-a: Serai´ah, Jeremiah, Ezra,


And Jesh´u-a begat Joi´akim, Joi´akim also begat Eli´ashib, and Eli´ashib begat Joi´ada,


Moreover from the time that I was appointed to be their governor in the land of Judah, from the twentieth year even unto the two and thirtieth year of Artaxerx´es the king, that is, twelve years, I and my brethren have not eaten the bread of the governor.


who came with Zerub´babel, Jesh´u-a, Nehemi´ah, Azari´ah, Ra-ami´ah, Nahama´ni, Mor´decai, Bilshan, Mis´pe-reth, Big´vai, Nehum, Ba´anah. The number, I say, of the men of the people of Israel was this;


And Nehemi´ah, which is the Tirsha´tha, and Ezra the priest the scribe, and the Levites that taught the people, said unto all the people, This day is holy unto the Lord your God; mourn not, nor weep. For all the people wept, when they heard the words of the law.


And he said, O my Lord, send, I pray thee, by the hand of him whom thou wilt send.


Then Zerub´babel the son of She-al´ti-el, and Joshua the son of Jos´edech, the high priest, with all the remnant of the people, obeyed the voice of the Lord their God, and the words of Hag´gai the prophet, as the Lord their God had sent him, and the people did fear before the Lord.


And the Lord stirred up the spirit of Zerub´babel the son of She-al´ti-el, governor of Judah, and the spirit of Joshua the son of Jos´edech, the high priest, and the spirit of all the remnant of the people; and they came and did work in the house of the Lord of hosts, their God,


in the four and twentieth day of the sixth month, in the second year of Dari´us the king.


Thus speaketh the Lord of hosts, saying, This people say, The time is not come, the time that the Lord's house should be built.


Then came the word of the Lord by Hag´gai the prophet, saying,


In the four and twentieth day of the ninth month, in the second year of Dari´us, came the word of the Lord by Hag´gai the prophet, saying,


And again the word of the Lord came unto Hag´gai in the four and twentieth day of the month, saying,


Speak to Zerub´babel, governor of Judah, saying, I will shake the heavens and the earth;


Yet now be strong, O Zerub´babel, saith the Lord; and be strong, O Joshua, son of Jos´edech, the high priest; and be strong, all ye people of the land, saith the Lord, and work: for I am with you, saith the Lord of hosts:


In the eighth month, in the second year of Dari´us, came the word of the Lord unto Zechari´ah, the son of Berechi´ah, the son of Iddo the prophet, saying,


And he showed me Joshua the high priest standing before the angel of the Lord, and Satan standing at his right hand to resist him.


And if ye offer the blind for sacrifice, is it not evil? and if ye offer the lame and sick, is it not evil? offer it now unto thy governor; will he be pleased with thee, or accept thy person? saith the Lord of hosts.
