And she conceived again, and bare a son; and she said, Now will I praise the Lord: therefore she called his name Judah; and left bearing.


And the thing which he did displeased the Lord: wherefore he slew him also.


And she conceived again, and bare a son; and she called his name Onan.


And she yet again conceived, and bare a son; and called his name Shelah: and he was at Chezib, when she bare him.


And Er, Judah's firstborn, was wicked in the sight of the Lord; and the Lord slew him.


And the sons of Levi; Gershon, Kohath, and Mera´ri.


And the sons of Is´sachar; Tola, and Phuvah, and Job, and Shimron.


These are the sons of Israel; Reuben, Simeon, Levi, and Judah, Is´sachar, and Zeb´ulun,


Now these were the sons of David, which were born unto him in Hebron; the firstborn Amnon, of Ahin´o-am the Jez´reelitess: the second, Daniel, of Ab´igail the Car´melitess:


The sons of Judah; Pharez, Hezron, and Carmi, and Hur, and Shobal.


The sons of Shelah the son of Judah were, Er the father of Lecah, and La´adah the father of Mare´shah, and the families of the house of them that wrought fine linen, of the house of Ashbe´a,


For Judah prevailed above his brethren, and of him came the chief ruler; but the birthright was Joseph's:)


U´thai the son of Ammi´hud, the son of Omri, the son of Imri, the son of Bani, of the children of Pharez the son of Judah.


And of the sons of Zerah; Jeu´el, and their brethren, six hundred and ninety.


And Pethahi´ah the son of Meshez´abeel, of the children of Zerah the son of Judah, was at the king's hand in all matters concerning the people.


but chose the tribe of Judah, the mount Zion which he loved.
