and the Horites in their mount Se´ir, unto El–pa´ran, which is by the wilderness.


and Esau said to Jacob, Feed me, I pray thee, with that same red pottage; for I am faint: therefore was his name called Edom.


And Jacob sent messengers before him to Esau his brother unto the land of Se´ir, the country of Edom.


And he commanded them, saying, Thus shall ye speak unto my lord Esau; Thy servant Jacob saith thus, I have sojourned with Laban, and stayed there until now:


Now these are the generations of Esau, who is Edom.


duke Mag´di-el, duke Iram: these be the dukes of Edom, according to their habitations in the land of their possession: he is Esau the father of the Edomites.


And these are the generations of Esau the father of the Edomites in mount Se´ir:


And some of them, even of the sons of Simeon, five hundred men, went to mount Se´ir, having for their captains Pelati´ah, and Ne-ari´ah, and Rephai´ah, and Uz´zi-el, the sons of Ishi.


And now, behold, the children of Ammon and Moab and mount Se´ir, whom thou wouldest not let Israel invade, when they came out of the land of Egypt, but they turned from them, and destroyed them not;


For the children of Ammon and Moab stood up against the inhabitants of mount Se´ir, utterly to slay and destroy them: and when they had made an end of the inhabitants of Se´ir, every one helped to destroy another.


Likewise when all the Jews that were in Moab, and among the Ammonites, and in Edom, and that were in all the countries, heard that the king of Babylon had left a remnant of Judah, and that he had set over them Gedali´ah the son of Ahi´kam the son of Shaphan;


The vision of Obadi´ah. Thus saith the Lord God concerning Edom; We have heard a rumor from the Lord, and an ambassador is sent among the heathen, Arise ye, and let us rise up against her in battle.


The pride of thine heart hath deceived thee, thou that dwellest in the clefts of the rock, whose habitation is high; that saith in his heart, Who shall bring me down to the ground?


and I hated Esau, and laid his mountains and his heritage waste for the dragons of the wilderness.


as he did to the children of Esau, which dwelt in Se´ir, when he destroyed the Horim from before them; and they succeeded them, and dwelt in their stead even unto this day:


And command thou the people, saying, Ye are to pass through the coast of your brethren the children of Esau, which dwell in Se´ir; and they shall be afraid of you: take ye good heed unto yourselves therefore:


meddle not with them; for I will not give you of their land, no, not so much as a footbreadth; because I have given mount Se´ir unto Esau for a possession.


And I gave unto Isaac Jacob and Esau: and I gave unto Esau mount Se´ir, to possess it; but Jacob and his children went down into Egypt.


So Saul took the kingdom over Israel, and fought against all his enemies on every side, against Moab, and against the children of Ammon, and against Edom, and against the kings of Zobah, and against the Philistines: and whithersoever he turned himself, he vexed them.
