And Jacob sent messengers before him to Esau his brother unto the land of Se´ir, the country of Edom.


And he commanded them, saying, Thus shall ye speak unto my lord Esau; Thy servant Jacob saith thus, I have sojourned with Laban, and stayed there until now:


And he said unto him, My lord knoweth that the children are tender, and the flocks and herds with young are with me; and if men should overdrive them one day, all the flock will die.


And now, behold, the children of Ammon and Moab and mount Se´ir, whom thou wouldest not let Israel invade, when they came out of the land of Egypt, but they turned from them, and destroyed them not;


He shall feed his flock like a shepherd: he shall gather the lambs with his arm, and carry them in his bosom, and shall gently lead those that are with young.


Thus saith the Lord God; Because that Moab and Se´ir do say, Behold, the house of Judah is like unto all the heathen;


And with many such parables spake he the word unto them, as they were able to hear it.


We then that are strong ought to bear the infirmities of the weak, and not to please ourselves.


I have fed you with milk, and not with meat: for hitherto ye were not able to bear it, neither yet now are ye able.


Then we turned, and took our journey into the wilderness by the way of the Red sea, as the Lord spake unto me: and we compassed mount Se´ir many days.


Lord, when thou wentest out of Se´ir, when thou marchedst out of the field of Edom, the earth trembled, and the heavens dropped, the clouds also dropped water.
