And the Lord sent against him bands of the Chaldees, and bands of the Syrians, and bands of the Moabites, and bands of the children of Ammon, and sent them against Judah to destroy it, according to the word of the Lord, which he spake by his servants the prophets.


And it came to pass in the ninth year of his reign, in the tenth month, in the tenth day of the month, that Nebuchadnez´zar king of Babylon came, he, and all his host, against Jerusalem, and pitched against it; and they built forts against it round about.


And them that had escaped from the sword carried he away to Babylon; where they were servants to him and his sons until the reign of the kingdom of Persia:


Therefore was the wrath of the Lord kindled against his people, insomuch that he abhorred his own inheritance.


I was wroth with my people, I have polluted mine inheritance, and given them into thine hand: thou didst show them no mercy; upon the ancient hast thou very heavily laid thy yoke.


Shall I not visit for these things? saith the Lord: shall not my soul be avenged on such a nation as this?


The word which Jeremiah the prophet commanded Serai´ah the son of Neri´ah, the son of Ma-asei´ah, when he went with Zedeki´ah the king of Judah into Babylon in the fourth year of his reign. And this Serai´ah was a quiet prince.


Now in the fifth month, in the tenth day of the month, which was the nineteenth year of Nebuchadrez´zar king of Babylon, came Neb´uzar–a´dan, captain of the guard, which served the king of Babylon, into Jerusalem,


we have sinned, and have committed iniquity, and have done wickedly, and have rebelled, even by departing from thy precepts and from thy judgments:


Then my anger shall be kindled against them in that day, and I will forsake them, and I will hide my face from them, and they shall be devoured, and many evils and troubles shall befall them; so that they will say in that day, Are not these evils come upon us, because our God is not among us?


How should one chase a thousand, and two put ten thousand to flight, except their Rock had sold them, and the Lord had shut them up?


And the anger of the Lord was hot against Israel, and he delivered them into the hands of spoilers that spoiled them, and he sold them into the hands of their enemies round about, so that they could not any longer stand before their enemies.


And the Lord sold them into the hand of Jabin king of Canaan, that reigned in Hazor; the captain of whose host was Sis´era, which dwelt in Haro´sheth of the Gentiles.


And the children of Israel did evil in the sight of the Lord: and the Lord delivered them into the hand of Mid´i-an seven years.
