And the beginning of his kingdom was Babel, and Erech, and Accad, and Calneh, in the land of Shinar.


When To´i king of Hamath heard that David had smitten all the host of Hadade´zer,


And at that time Solomon held a feast, and all Israel with him, a great congregation, from the entering in of Hamath unto the river of Egypt, before the Lord our God, seven days and seven days, even fourteen days.


And the king of Assyria brought men from Babylon, and from Cuthah, and from Ava, and from Hamath, and from Sepharva´im, and placed them in the cities of Samaria instead of the children of Israel: and they possessed Samaria, and dwelt in the cities thereof.


And the men of Babylon made Suc´coth–be´noth, and the men of Cuth made Nergal, and the men of Hamath made Ashi´ma,


Where are the gods of Hamath, and of Arpad? where are the gods of Sepharva´im, Hena, and Ivah? have they delivered Samaria out of mine hand?


Where is the king of Hamath, and the king of Arpad, and the king of the city of Sepharva´im, of Hena, and Ivah?


And he went forth and warred against the Philistines, and brake down the wall of Gath, and the wall of Jabneh, and the wall of Ashdod, and built cities about Ashdod, and among the Philistines.


Concerning Damascus. Hamath is confounded, and Arpad; for they have heard evil tidings: they are faint-hearted; there is sorrow on the sea; it cannot be quiet.


Art thou better than populous No, that was situate among the rivers, that had the waters round about it, whose rampart was the sea, and her wall was from the sea?


And as he talked with them, behold, there came up the champion, the Philistine of Gath, Goli´ath by name, out of the armies of the Philistines, and spake according to the same words: and David heard them.


And there went out a champion out of the camp of the Philistines, named Goli´ath, of Gath, whose height was six cubits and a span.


Therefore they sent the ark of God to Ekron. And it came to pass, as the ark of God came to Ekron, that the Ek´ronites cried out, saying, They have brought about the ark of the God of Israel to us, to slay us and our people.


They sent therefore and gathered all the lords of the Philistines unto them, and said, What shall we do with the ark of the God of Israel? And they answered, Let the ark of the God of Israel be carried about unto Gath. And they carried the ark of the God of Israel about thither.
