Notwithstanding the king's word prevailed against Jo´ab, and against the captains of the host. And Jo´ab and the captains of the host went out from the presence of the king, to number the people of Israel.


The cities of Aro´er are forsaken: they shall be for flocks, which shall lie down, and none shall make them afraid.


And Moses sent to spy out Jaa´zer, and they took the villages thereof, and drove out the Amorites that were there.


Now the children of Reuben and the children of Gad had a very great multitude of cattle: and when they saw the land of Jazer, and the land of Gil´e-ad, that, behold, the place was a place for cattle;


At´aroth, and Dibon, and Jazer, and Nimrah, and Heshbon, and Ele-a´leh, and Shebam, and Nebo, and Be´on,


and Atroth, Shophan, and Jaa´zer, and Jog´behah,


From Aro´er, which is by the brink of the river of Arnon, and from the city that is by the river, even unto Gil´e-ad, there was not one city too strong for us: the Lord our God delivered all unto us:


And their coast was from Aro´er, that is on the bank of the river Arnon, and the city that is in the midst of the river, and all the plain by Me´deba;


And their coast was Jazer, and all the cities of Gil´e-ad, and half the land of the children of Ammon, unto Aro´er that is before Rabbah;


from Aro´er, that is upon the bank of the river Arnon, and the city that is in the midst of the river, and all the plain of Me´deba unto Dibon;


and to them which were in Aro´er, and to them which were in Siphmoth, and to them which were in Eshtemo´a,
