43 And the men of Israel answered the men of Judah, and said, We have ten parts in the king, and we have also more right in David than ye: why then did ye despise us, that our advice should not be first had in bringing back our king? And he bowed the heart of all the men of Judah, even as the heart of one man; so that they sent this word unto the king, Return thou, and all thy servants.


And all the people were at strife throughout all the tribes of Israel, saying, The king saved us out of the hand of our enemies, and he delivered us out of the hand of the Philistines; and now he is fled out of the land for Ab´salom.


And there happened to be there a man of Be´li-al, whose name was Sheba, the son of Bichri, a Benjamite: and he blew a trumpet, and said, We have no part in David, neither have we inheritance in the son of Jesse: every man to his tents, O Israel.


And David said to Ab´ishai, Now shall Sheba the son of Bichri do us more harm than did Ab´salom: take thou thy lord's servants, and pursue after him, lest he get him fenced cities, and escape us.


Then came all the tribes of Israel to David unto Hebron, and spake, saying, Behold, we are thy bone and thy flesh.


So when all Israel saw that the king hearkened not unto them, the people answered the king, saying, What portion have we in David? neither have we inheritance in the son of Jesse: to your tents, O Israel: now see to thine own house, David. So Israel departed unto their tents.


Only by pride cometh contention: but with the well advised is wisdom.


A soft answer turneth away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger.


The beginning of strife is as when one letteth out water: therefore leave off contention, before it be meddled with.


A brother offended is harder to be won than a strong city: and their contentions are like the bars of a castle.


Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good.


But if ye bite and devour one another, take heed that ye be not consumed one of another.


idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies,


Let us not be desirous of vainglory, provoking one another, envying one another.


Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves.


for the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God.


And the men of E´phra-im said unto him, Why hast thou served us thus, that thou calledst us not, when thou wentest to fight with the Mid´i-anites? And they did chide with him sharply.
