but if thou return to the city, and say unto Ab´salom, I will be thy servant, O king; as I have been thy father's servant hitherto, so will I now also be thy servant: then mayest thou for me defeat the counsel of Ahith´ophel.


And Hu´shai said unto Ab´salom, Nay; but whom the Lord, and this people, and all the men of Israel, choose, his will I be, and with him will I abide.


Then said Ab´salom to Ahith´ophel, Give counsel among you what we shall do.


The words of his mouth were smoother than butter, but war was in his heart: his words were softer than oil, yet were they drawn swords.


And the other Jews dissembled likewise with him; insomuch that Barnabas also was carried away with their dissimulation.
