And the army of the Chaldees pursued after the king, and overtook him in the plains of Jericho: and all his army were scattered from him.


Also he strengthened himself, and built up all the wall that was broken, and raised it up to the towers, and another wall without, and repaired Millo in the city of David, and made darts and shields in abundance.


But the gate of the fountain repaired Shallun the son of Col–ho´zeh, the ruler of part of Mizpah; he built it, and covered it, and set up the doors thereof, the locks thereof, and the bars thereof, and the wall of the pool of Silo´ah by the king's garden, and unto the stairs that go down from the city of David.


Ye made also a ditch between the two walls for the water of the old pool: but ye have not looked unto the maker thereof, neither had respect unto him that fashioned it long ago.


All thy rulers are fled together, they are bound by the archers: all that are found in thee are bound together, which have fled from far.


and Zedeki´ah king of Judah shall not escape out of the hand of the Chalde´ans, but shall surely be delivered into the hand of the king of Babylon, and shall speak with him mouth to mouth, and his eyes shall behold his eyes;


and thou shalt not escape out of his hand, but shalt surely be taken, and delivered into his hand; and thine eyes shall behold the eyes of the king of Babylon, and he shall speak with thee mouth to mouth, and thou shalt go to Babylon.


but if thou wilt not go forth to the king of Babylon's princes, then shall this city be given into the hand of the Chalde´ans, and they shall burn it with fire, and thou shalt not escape out of their hand.


As keepers of a field, are they against her round about; because she hath been rebellious against me, saith the Lord.


The whole city shall flee for the noise of the horsemen and bowmen; they shall go into thickets, and climb up upon the rocks: every city shall be forsaken, and not a man dwell therein.


Thus saith the Lord; Behold, I will give Pha´raoh–hoph´ra king of Egypt into the hand of his enemies, and into the hand of them that seek his life; as I gave Zedeki´ah king of Judah into the hand of Nebuchadrez´zar king of Babylon, his enemy, and that sought his life.


Go ye up upon her walls, and destroy; but make not a full end: take away her battlements; for they are not the Lord's.


Judah is gone into captivity because of affliction, and because of great servitude: she dwelleth among the heathen, she findeth no rest: all her persecutors overtook her between the straits.


And from the daughter of Zion all her beauty is departed: her princes are become like harts that find no pasture, and they are gone without strength before the pursuer.


And the prince that is among them shall bear upon his shoulder in the twilight, and shall go forth: they shall dig through the wall to carry out thereby: he shall cover his face, that he see not the ground with his eyes.


And I will scatter toward every wind all that are about him to help him, and all his bands; and I will draw out the sword after them.


Then shalt thou bring forth thy stuff by day in their sight, as stuff for removing: and thou shalt go forth at even in their sight, as they that go forth into captivity.


And it came to pass in the twelfth year of our captivity, in the tenth month, in the fifth day of the month, that one that had escaped out of Jerusalem came unto me, saying, The city is smitten.


And I will set my face against you, and ye shall be slain before your enemies: they that hate you shall reign over you; and ye shall flee when none pursueth you.


And upon them that are left alive of you I will send a faintness into their hearts in the lands of their enemies; and the sound of a shaken leaf shall chase them; and they shall flee, as fleeing from a sword; and they shall fall when none pursueth.


Thus saith the Lord of hosts; The fast of the fourth month, and the fast of the fifth, and the fast of the seventh, and the fast of the tenth, shall be to the house of Judah joy and gladness, and cheerful feasts; therefore love the truth and peace.


The Lord shall cause thee to be smitten before thine enemies: thou shalt go out one way against them, and flee seven ways before them; and shalt be removed into all the kingdoms of the earth.


How should one chase a thousand, and two put ten thousand to flight, except their Rock had sold them, and the Lord had shut them up?
