In the days of Pekah king of Israel came Tig´lath–pile´ser king of Assyria, and took Ijon, and A´bel–beth–ma´achah, and Jano´ah, and Kedesh, and Hazor, and Gil´e-ad, and Galilee, all the land of Naph´tali, and carried them captive to Assyria.


And Uri´jah the priest built an altar according to all that king Ahaz had sent from Damascus: so Uri´jah the priest made it against king Ahaz came from Damascus.


And he built altars in the house of the Lord, of which the Lord said, In Jerusalem will I put my name.


All this, said David, the Lord made me understand in writing by his hand upon me, even all the works of this pattern.


Thus were they defiled with their own works, and went a whoring with their own inventions.


And Moses wrote all the words of the Lord, and rose up early in the morning, and builded an altar under the hill, and twelve pillars, according to the twelve tribes of Israel.


And Moses did look upon all the work, and, behold, they had done it as the Lord had commanded, even so had they done it: and Moses blessed them.


And I took unto me faithful witnesses to record, Uri´ah the priest, and Zechari´ah the son of Jeberechi´ah.


thus saith the Lord, Learn not the way of the heathen, and be not dismayed at the signs of heaven; for the heathen are dismayed at them.


Thou hast played the whore also with the Assyrians, because thou wast unsatiable; yea, thou hast played the harlot with them, and yet couldest not be satisfied.


And if they be ashamed of all that they have done, show them the form of the house, and the fashion thereof, and the goings out thereof, and the comings in thereof, and all the forms thereof, and all the ordinances thereof, and all the forms thereof, and all the laws thereof: and write it in their sight, that they may keep the whole form thereof, and all the ordinances thereof, and do them.


In their setting of their threshold by my thresholds, and their post by my posts, and the wall between me and them, they have even defiled my holy name by their abominations that they have committed: wherefore I have consumed them in mine anger.


Because they ministered unto them before their idols, and caused the house of Israel to fall into iniquity; therefore have I lifted up mine hand against them, saith the Lord God, and they shall bear their iniquity.


and honor not his father or his mother, he shall be free. Thus have ye made the commandment of God of none effect by your tradition.


But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.


And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect will of God.


take heed to thyself that thou be not snared by following them, after that they be destroyed from before thee; and that thou inquire not after their gods, saying, How did these nations serve their gods? even so will I do likewise.


Therefore said we, that it shall be, when they should so say to us or to our generations in time to come, that we may say again, Behold the pattern of the altar of the Lord, which our fathers made, not for burnt offerings, nor for sacrifices; but it is a witness between us and you.


forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers;
