And Shallum the son of Jabesh conspired against him, and smote him before the people, and slew him, and reigned in his stead.


But Pekah the son of Remali´ah, a captain of his, conspired against him, and smote him in Samaria, in the palace of the king's house, with Argob and A´ri-eh, and with him fifty men of the Gil´e-adites: and he killed him, and reigned in his room.


In the days of Pekah king of Israel came Tig´lath–pile´ser king of Assyria, and took Ijon, and A´bel–beth–ma´achah, and Jano´ah, and Kedesh, and Hazor, and Gil´e-ad, and Galilee, all the land of Naph´tali, and carried them captive to Assyria.


And the rest of the acts of Pekah, and all that he did, behold, they are written in the book of the Chronicles of the kings of Israel.


In the seventeenth year of Pekah the son of Remali´ah, Ahaz the son of Jotham king of Judah began to reign.


In the twelfth year of Ahaz king of Judah began Hoshe´a the son of Elah to reign in Samaria over Israel nine years.


At that time did king Ahaz send unto the kings of Assyria to help him.


For before the child shall know to refuse the evil, and choose the good, the land that thou abhorrest shall be forsaken of both her kings.


Forasmuch as this people refuseth the waters of Shilo´ah that go softly, and rejoice in Rezin and Remali´ah's son;


So shall Beth–el do unto you because of your great wickedness: in a morning shall the king of Israel utterly be cut off.


For now they shall say, We have no king, because we feared not the Lord; what then should a king do to us?


As for Samaria, her king is cut off as the foam upon the water.
