And he said, Whether they be come out for peace, take them alive; or whether they be come out for war, take them alive.


And the rest of the acts of Jo´ash, and all that he did, and his might wherewith he fought against Amazi´ah king of Judah, are they not written in the book of the Chronicles of the kings of Israel?


But Amazi´ah would not hear. Therefore Jeho´ash king of Israel went up; and he and Amazi´ah king of Judah looked one another in the face at Beth–she´mesh, which belongeth to Judah.


Now it came to pass, after that Amazi´ah was come from the slaughter of the Edomites, that he brought the gods of the children of Se´ir, and set them up to be his gods, and bowed down himself before them, and burned incense unto them.


Only by pride cometh contention: but with the well advised is wisdom.


The beginning of strife is as when one letteth out water: therefore leave off contention, before it be meddled with.


A fool's lips enter into contention, and his mouth calleth for strokes.


Every purpose is established by counsel: and with good advice make war.


Go not forth hastily to strive, lest thou know not what to do in the end thereof, when thy neighbor hath put thee to shame.


And would to God this people were under my hand! then would I remove Abim´elech. And he said to Abim´elech, Increase thine army, and come out.
