For Solomon went after Ash´toreth the goddess of the Zido´ni-ans, and after Milcom the abomination of the Ammonites.


Then did Solomon build a high place for Chemosh, the abomination of Moab, in the hill that is before Jerusalem, and for Molech, the abomination of the children of Ammon.


And in the twentieth year of Jerobo´am king of Israel reigned Asa over Judah.


And he brought also the brazen altar, which was before the Lord, from the forefront of the house, from between the altar and the house of the Lord, and put it on the north side of the altar.


But if ye say unto me, We trust in the Lord our God: is not that he, whose high places and whose altars Hezeki´ah hath taken away, and hath said to Judah and Jerusalem, Ye shall worship before this altar in Jerusalem?


And the high places that were before Jerusalem, which were on the right hand of the mount of corruption, which Solomon the king of Israel had builded for Ash´toreth the abomination of the Zido´ni-ans, and for Chemosh the abomination of the Moabites, and for Milcom the abomination of the children of Ammon, did the king defile.


And Abi´jah pursued after Jerobo´am, and took cities from him, Beth–el with the towns thereof, and Jesha´nah with the towns thereof, and E´phra-in with the towns thereof.


And he placed forces in all the fenced cities of Judah, and set garrisons in the land of Judah, and in the cities of E´phra-im, which Asa his father had taken.


And, behold, Amari´ah the chief priest is over you in all matters of the Lord; and Zebadi´ah the son of Ish´ma-el, the ruler of the house of Judah, for all the king's matters: also the Levites shall be officers before you. Deal courageously, and the Lord shall be with the good.


And Jehosh´aphat dwelt at Jerusalem: and he went out again through the people from Beer–sheba to mount E´phra-im, and brought them back unto the Lord God of their fathers.


Then they went in to Hezeki´ah the king, and said, We have cleansed all the house of the Lord, and the altar of burnt offering, with all the vessels thereof, and the showbread table, with all the vessels thereof.


Moreover he made an altar of brass, twenty cubits the length thereof, and twenty cubits the breadth thereof, and ten cubits the height thereof.


Then Solomon offered burnt offerings unto the Lord on the altar of the Lord, which he had built before the porch,


He heweth him down cedars, and taketh the cypress and the oak, which he strengtheneth for himself among the trees of the forest: he planteth an ash, and the rain doth nourish it.


which remain among the graves, and lodge in the monuments; which eat swine's flesh, and broth of abominable things is in their vessels;


And first I will recompense their iniquity and their sin double; because they have defiled my land, they have filled mine inheritance with the carcasses of their detestable and abominable things.


So I went in and saw; and behold every form of creeping things, and abominable beasts, and all the idols of the house of Israel, portrayed upon the wall round about.


Therefore shall ye keep mine ordinance, that ye commit not any one of these abominable customs, which were committed before you, and that ye defile not yourselves therein: I am the Lord your God.


Then he that had received the five talents went and traded with the same, and made them other five talents.


And from thence, when the brethren heard of us, they came to meet us as far as Ap´pi-i Forum, and the Three Taverns; whom when Paul saw, he thanked God, and took courage.


Cursed be the man that maketh any graven or molten image, an abomination unto the Lord, the work of the hands of the craftsman, and putteth it in a secret place: and all the people shall answer and say, Amen.


For the time past of our life may suffice us to have wrought the will of the Gentiles, when we walked in lasciviousness, lusts, excess of wine, revelings, banquetings, and abominable idolatries:


And they put away the strange gods from among them, and served the Lord: and his soul was grieved for the misery of Israel.
