So Jo´ash the king of Israel went up; and they saw one another in the face, both he and Amazi´ah king of Judah, at Beth–she´mesh, which belongeth to Judah.


But when Pharaoh saw that there was respite, he hardened his heart, and hearkened not unto them; as the Lord had said.


I returned, and saw under the sun, that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favor to men of skill; but time and chance happeneth to them all.


Lord, when thy hand is lifted up, they will not see: but they shall see, and be ashamed for their envy at the people; yea, the fire of thine enemies shall devour them.


Shall a trumpet be blown in the city, and the people not be afraid? shall there be evil in a city, and the Lord hath not done it?


And by chance there came down a certain priest that way; and when he saw him, he passed by on the other side.


and the border compassed from Ba´alah westward unto mount Se´ir, and passed along unto the side of mount Je´arim, which is Ches´alon, on the north side, and went down to Beth–she´mesh, and passed on to Timnah:


and A´in with her suburbs, and Juttah with her suburbs, and Beth–she´mesh with her suburbs; nine cities out of those two tribes.


And the men did so; and took two milch kine, and tied them to the cart, and shut up their calves at home:


And the kine took the straight way to the way of Beth–she´mesh, and went along the highway, lowing as they went, and turned not aside to the right hand or to the left; and the lords of the Philistines went after them unto the border of Beth–she´mesh.


And they said, If ye send away the ark of the God of Israel, send it not empty; but in any wise return him a trespass offering: then ye shall be healed, and it shall be known to you why his hand is not removed from you.
