And Abraham stood up from before his dead, and spake unto the sons of Heth, saying,


And Esau was forty years old when he took to wife Judith the daughter of Be-e´ri the Hittite, and Bash´emath the daughter of Elon the Hittite:


Who smote Abim´elech the son of Jerub´besheth? did not a woman cast a piece of a millstone upon him from the wall, that he died in Thebez? why went ye nigh the wall? then say thou, Thy servant Uri´ah the Hittite is dead also.


And the shooters shot from off the wall upon thy servants; and some of the king's servants be dead, and thy servant Uri´ah the Hittite is dead also.


And David sent to Jo´ab, saying, Send me Uri´ah the Hittite. And Jo´ab sent Uri´ah to David.


Wherefore hast thou despised the commandment of the Lord, to do evil in his sight? thou hast killed Uri´ah the Hittite with the sword, and hast taken his wife to be thy wife, and hast slain him with the sword of the children of Ammon.

And Jo´ab the son of Zeru-i´ah, and the servants of David, went out, and met together by the pool of Gibeon: and they sat down, the one on the one side of the pool, and the other on the other side of the pool.


And there were three sons of Zeru-i´ah there, Jo´ab, and Ab´ishai, and As´ahel: and As´ahel was as light of foot as a wild roe.


And Ab´ishai, the brother of Jo´ab, the son of Zeru-i´ah, was chief among three. And he lifted up his spear against three hundred, and slew them, and had the name among three.


Eliph´elet the son of Ahas´bai, the son of the Ma-ach´athite, Eli´am the son of Ahith´ophel the Gi´lonite,


Uri´ah the Hittite: thirty and seven in all.


And a chariot came up and went out of Egypt for six hundred shekels of silver, and a horse for a hundred and fifty: and so for all the kings of the Hittites, and for the kings of Syria, did they bring them out by their means.


For the Lord had made the host of the Syrians to hear a noise of chariots, and a noise of horses, even the noise of a great host: and they said one to another, Lo, the king of Israel hath hired against us the kings of the Hittites, and the kings of the Egyptians, to come upon us.


And Joshua said, Hereby ye shall know that the living God is among you, and that he will without fail drive out from before you the Canaanites, and the Hittites, and the Hivites, and the Per´izzites, and the Gir´gashites, and the Amorites, and the Jeb´usites.


So David and Ab´ishai came to the people by night: and, behold, Saul lay sleeping within the trench, and his spear stuck in the ground at his bolster: but Abner and the people lay round about him.
