And unto Abi´athar the priest said the king, Get thee to An´athoth, unto thine own fields; for thou art worthy of death: but I will not at this time put thee to death, because thou barest the ark of the Lord God before David my father, and because thou hast been afflicted in all wherein my father was afflicted.


Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and show thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not.


For the children of Israel shall abide many days without a king, and without a prince, and without a sacrifice, and without an image, and without an ephod, and without teraphim:


And he shall stand before Ele-a´zar the priest, who shall ask counsel for him after the judgment of Urim before the Lord: at his word shall they go out, and at his word they shall come in, both he, and all the children of Israel with him, even all the congregation.


they were ware of it, and fled unto Lystra and Derbe, cities of Lyca-o´nia, and unto the region that lieth round about:


but their laying wait was known of Saul. And they watched the gates day and night to kill him.


Therefore they inquired of the Lord further, if the man should yet come thither. And the Lord answered, Behold, he hath hid himself among the stuff.


And Saul said unto Ahi´ah, Bring hither the ark of God. For the ark of God was at that time with the children of Israel.


And one of the sons of Ahim´elech the son of Ahi´tub, named Abi´athar, escaped, and fled after David.


Then said David, O Lord God of Israel, thy servant hath certainly heard that Saul seeketh to come to Kei´lah, to destroy the city for my sake.


And it came to pass, when Abi´athar the son of Ahim´elech fled to David to Kei´lah, that he came down with an ephod in his hand.


And Saul called all the people together to war, to go down to Kei´lah, to besiege David and his men.


And David said to Abi´athar the priest, Ahim´elech's son, I pray thee, bring me hither the ephod. And Abi´athar brought thither the ephod to David.
