So the posts that rode upon mules and camels went out, being hastened and pressed on by the king's commandment. And the decree was given at Shushan the palace.


Carry neither purse, nor scrip, nor shoes: and salute no man by the way.


Now a certain man of the servants of Saul was there that day, detained before the Lord; and his name was Do´eg, an Edomite, the chiefest of the herdmen that belonged to Saul.


And the priest said, The sword of Goli´ath the Philistine, whom thou slewest in the valley of Elah, behold, it is here wrapped in a cloth behind the ephod: if thou wilt take that, take it: for there is no other save that here. And David said, There is none like that; give it me.


And David said unto Abi´athar, I knew it that day, when Do´eg the Edomite was there, that he would surely tell Saul: I have occasioned the death of all the persons of thy father's house.


Then answered Do´eg the Edomite, which was set over the servants of Saul, and said, I saw the son of Jesse coming to Nob, to Ahim´elech the son of Ahi´tub.
