And Uri´ah said unto David, The ark, and Israel, and Judah, abide in tents; and my lord Jo´ab, and the servants of my lord, are encamped in the open fields; shall I then go into mine house, to eat and to drink, and to lie with my wife? as thou livest, and as thy soul liveth, I will not do this thing.


And he shall stand before Ele-a´zar the priest, who shall ask counsel for him after the judgment of Urim before the Lord: at his word shall they go out, and at his word they shall come in, both he, and all the children of Israel with him, even all the congregation.


And the children of Israel arose, and went up to the house of God, and asked counsel of God, and said, Which of us shall go up first to the battle against the children of Benjamin? And the Lord said, Judah shall go up first.


(And the children of Israel went up and wept before the Lord until even, and asked counsel of the Lord, saying, Shall I go up again to battle against the children of Benjamin my brother? And the Lord said, Go up against him.)


Then said Saul unto the people that were with him, Number now, and see who is gone from us. And when they had numbered, behold, Jonathan and his armor-bearer were not there.


And Saul said, Let us go down after the Philistines by night, and spoil them until the morning light, and let us not leave a man of them. And they said, Do whatsoever seemeth good unto thee. Then said the priest. Let us draw near hither unto God.


And David knew that Saul secretly practised mischief against him; and he said to Abi´athar the priest, Bring hither the ephod.


When the Philistines took the ark of God, they brought it into the house of Dagon, and set it by Dagon.


And the men of Kir´jath–je´arim came, and fetched up the ark of the Lord, and brought it into the house of Abin´adab in the hill, and sanctified Ele-a´zar his son to keep the ark of the Lord.
