15 And he said, Thou knowest that the kingdom was mine, and that all Israel set their faces on me, that I should reign: howbeit the kingdom is turned about, and is become my brother's: for it was his from the Lord.

And David comforted Bath–she´ba his wife, and went in unto her, and lay with her: and she bare a son, and he called his name Solomon: and the Lord loved him.


And there came a messenger to David, saying, The hearts of the men of Israel are after Ab´salom.


And on this manner did Ab´salom to all Israel that came to the king for judgment: so Ab´salom stole the hearts of the men of Israel.


And Hu´shai said unto Ab´salom, Nay; but whom the Lord, and this people, and all the men of Israel, choose, his will I be, and with him will I abide.


and his second, Chil´e-ab, of Ab´igail the wife of Nabal the Car´melite; and the third, Ab´salom the son of Ma´acah the daughter of Tal´mai king of Geshur;


and the fourth, Adoni´jah the son of Haggith; and the fifth, Shephati´ah the son of Abi´tal;


And when thy days be fulfilled, and thou shalt sleep with thy fathers, I will set up thy seed after thee, which shall proceed out of thy bowels, and I will establish his kingdom.


For he is gone down this day, and hath slain oxen and fat cattle and sheep in abundance, and hath called all the king's sons, and the captains of the host, and Abi´athar the priest; and, behold, they eat and drink before him, and say, God save king Adoni´jah.


So Zadok the priest, and Nathan the prophet, and Benai´ah the son of Jehoi´ada, and the Cher´ethites, and the Pel´ethites, went down, and caused Solomon to ride upon king David's mule, and brought him to Gihon.


And Zadok the priest took a horn of oil out of the tabernacle, and anointed Solomon. And they blew the trumpet; and all the people said, God save king Solomon.


Then Adoni´jah the son of Haggith exalted himself, saying, I will be king: and he prepared him chariots and horsemen, and fifty men to run before him.


He said moreover, I have somewhat to say unto thee. And she said, Say on.


And now I ask one petition of thee, deny me not. And she said unto him, Say on.


And king Solomon answered and said unto his mother, And why dost thou ask Ab´ishag the Shu´nammite for Adoni´jah? ask for him the kingdom also; for he is mine elder brother; even for him, and for Abi´athar the priest, and for Jo´ab the son of Zeru-i´ah.


There is no wisdom nor understanding nor counsel against the Lord.


he revealeth the deep and secret things: he knoweth what is in the darkness, and the light dwelleth with him.
