And it came to pass, that, when the sun went down, and it was dark, behold a smoking furnace, and a burning lamp that passed between those pieces.


Then the fire of the Lord fell, and consumed the burnt sacrifice, and the wood, and the stones, and the dust, and licked up the water that was in the trench.


And Eli´jah answered and said to the captain of fifty, If I be a man of God, then let fire come down from heaven, and consume thee and thy fifty. And there came down fire from heaven, and consumed him and his fifty.


And it came to pass, as they still went on, and talked, that, behold, there appeared a chariot of fire, and horses of fire, and parted them both asunder; and Eli´jah went up by a whirlwind into heaven.


Behold, my terror shall not make thee afraid, neither shall my hand be heavy upon thee.


it stood still, but I could not discern the form thereof: an image was before mine eyes, there was silence, and I heard a voice, saying,


And the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush: and he looked, and, behold, the bush burned with fire, and the bush was not consumed.


And the Lord passed by before him, and proclaimed, The Lord, The Lord God, merciful and gracious, long-suffering, and abundant in goodness and truth,


Then he answered and spake unto me, saying, This is the word of the Lord unto Zerub´babel, saying, Not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit, saith the Lord of hosts.


And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.


Take ye therefore good heed unto yourselves; for ye saw no manner of similitude on the day that the Lord spake unto you in Horeb out of the midst of the fire;


Did ever people hear the voice of God speaking out of the midst of the fire, as thou hast heard, and live?


for our God is a consuming fire.
