And she said, As the Lord thy God liveth, I have not a cake, but a handful of meal in a barrel, and a little oil in a cruse: and, behold, I am gathering two sticks, that I may go in and dress it for me and my son, that we may eat it, and die.


And the word of the Lord came unto him, saying,


And it came to pass after many days, that the word of the Lord came to Eli´jah in the third year, saying, Go, show thyself unto Ahab; and I will send rain upon the earth.


As the Lord thy God liveth, there is no nation or kingdom, whither my lord hath not sent to seek thee: and when they said, He is not there; he took an oath of the kingdom and nation, that they found thee not.


And Eli´jah said, As the Lord of hosts liveth, before whom I stand, I will surely show myself unto him today.


And Micai´ah said, As the Lord liveth, what the Lord saith unto me, that will I speak.


When heaven is shut up, and there is no rain, because they have sinned against thee; if they pray toward this place, and confess thy name, and turn from their sin, when thou afflictest them:


But the angel of the Lord said to Eli´jah the Tishbite, Arise, go up to meet the messengers of the king of Samaria, and say unto them, Is it not because there is not a God in Israel, that ye go to inquire of Ba-al´–zebub the god of Ekron?


And Eli´sha said, As the Lord of hosts liveth, before whom I stand, surely, were it not that I regard the presence of Jehosh´aphat the king of Judah, I would not look toward thee, nor see thee.


And Eli´sha came again to Gilgal: and there was a dearth in the land; and the sons of the prophets were sitting before him: and he said unto his servant, Set on the great pot, and seethe pottage for the sons of the prophets.


But he said, As the Lord liveth, before whom I stand, I will receive none. And he urged him to take it; but he refused.


But Geha´zi, the servant of Eli´sha the man of God, said, Behold, my master hath spared Na´aman this Syrian, in not receiving at his hands that which he brought: but, as the Lord liveth, I will run after him, and take somewhat of him.


And there came a writing to him from Eli´jah the prophet, saying, Thus saith the Lord God of David thy father, Because thou hast not walked in the ways of Jehosh´aphat thy father, nor in the ways of Asa king of Judah,


When the heaven is shut up, and there is no rain, because they have sinned against thee; yet if they pray toward this place, and confess thy name, and turn from their sin, when thou dost afflict them;


Behold, he withholdeth the waters, and they dry up: also he sendeth them out, and they overturn the earth.


Lift up thine eyes round about, and behold: all these gather themselves together, and come to thee. As I live, saith the Lord, thou shalt surely clothe thee with them all, as with an ornament, and bind them on thee, as a bride doeth.


and I will lay it waste: it shall not be pruned, nor digged; but there shall come up briers and thorns: I will also command the clouds that they rain no rain upon it.


Are there any among the vanities of the Gentiles that can cause rain? or can the heavens give showers? Art not thou he, O Lord our God? therefore we will wait upon thee: for thou hast made all these things.


Therefore thus saith the Lord, If thou return, then will I bring thee again, and thou shalt stand before me: and if thou take forth the precious from the vile, thou shalt be as my mouth: let them return unto thee; but return not thou unto them.


The prophets that have been before me and before thee of old prophesied both against many countries, and against great kingdoms, of war, and of evil, and of pestilence.


Therefore the heaven over you is stayed from dew, and the earth is stayed from her fruit.


And if ye will receive it, this is Eli´jah, which was for to come.


And they said, Some say that thou art John the Baptist; some, Eli´jah; and others, Jeremiah, or one of the prophets.


Some of them that stood there, when they heard that, said, This man calleth for Eli´jah.


The rest said, Let be, let us see whether Eli´jah will come to save him.


for he taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes.


And he shall go before him in the spirit and power of Eli´jah, to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just; to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.


And the angel answering said unto him, I am Gabriel, that stand in the presence of God; and am sent to speak unto thee, and to show thee these glad tidings.


Watch ye therefore, and pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man.


And, behold, there talked with him two men, which were Moses and Eli´jah:


And it came to pass, as they departed from him, Peter said unto Jesus, Master, it is good for us to be here: and let us make three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Eli´jah: not knowing what he said.


And when his disciples James and John saw this, they said, Lord, wilt thou that we command fire to come down from heaven, and consume them, even as Eli´jah did?


And they asked him, What then? Art thou Eli´jah? And he saith, I am not. Art thou that Prophet? And he answered, No.


And they asked him, and said unto him, Why baptizest thou then, if thou be not that Christ, nor Eli´jah, neither that Prophet?


For there stood by me this night the angel of God, whose I am, and whom I serve,


God hath not cast away his people which he foreknew. Wot ye not what the Scripture saith of Eli´jah? how he maketh intercession to God against Israel, saying,


At that time the Lord separated the tribe of Levi, to bear the ark of the covenant of the Lord, to stand before the Lord to minister unto him, and to bless in his name, unto this day.


Eli´jah was a man subject to like passions as we are, and he prayed earnestly that it might not rain: and it rained not on the earth by the space of three years and six months.


These have power to shut heaven, that it rain not in the days of their prophecy: and have power over waters to turn them to blood, and to smite the earth with all plagues, as often as they will.


Then Jephthah gathered together all the men of Gil´e-ad, and fought with E´phra-im: and the men of Gil´e-ad smote E´phra-im, because they said, Ye Gil´e-adites are fugitives of E´phra-im among the E´phra-imites, and among the Manas´sites.
