Whereupon the king took counsel, and made two calves of gold, and said unto them, It is too much for you to go up to Jerusalem: behold thy gods, O Israel, which brought thee up out of the land of Egypt.


And he shall give Israel up because of the sins of Jerobo´am, who did sin, and who made Israel to sin.


And Judah did evil in the sight of the Lord, and they provoked him to jealousy with their sins which they had committed, above all that their fathers had done.


And it came to pass, when he reigned, that he smote all the house of Jerobo´am; he left not to Jerobo´am any that breathed, until he had destroyed him, according unto the saying of the Lord, which he spake by his servant Ahi´jah the Shi´lonite:


because of the sins of Jerobo´am which he sinned, and which he made Israel sin, by his provocation wherewith he provoked the Lord God of Israel to anger.


And he did evil in the sight of the Lord, and walked in the way of Jerobo´am, and in his sin wherewith he made Israel to sin.


But Omri wrought evil in the eyes of the Lord, and did worse than all that were before him.


And Ahab the son of Omri did evil in the sight of the Lord above all that were before him.


And it came to pass, as if it had been a light thing for him to walk in the sins of Jerobo´am the son of Nebat, that he took to wife Jez´ebel the daughter of Ethba´al king of the Zido´ni-ans, and went and served Ba´al, and worshipped him.


And Ahab made a grove; and Ahab did more to provoke the Lord God of Israel to anger than all the kings of Israel that were before him.


For he built up again the high places which Hezeki´ah his father had destroyed; and he reared up altars for Ba´al, and made a grove, as did Ahab king of Israel; and worshipped all the host of heaven, and served them.


Notwithstanding, the Lord turned not from the fierceness of his great wrath, wherewith his anger was kindled against Judah, because of all the provocations that Manas´seh had provoked him withal.


Nevertheless he cleaved unto the sins of Jerobo´am the son of Nebat, which made Israel to sin; he departed not therefrom.


and he ordained him priests for the high places, and for the devils, and for the calves which he had made.


And he caused his children to pass through the fire in the valley of the son of Hinnom: also he observed times, and used enchantments, and used witchcraft, and dealt with a familiar spirit, and with wizards: he wrought much evil in the sight of the Lord, to provoke him to anger.


And they took strong cities, and a fat land, and possessed houses full of all goods, wells digged, vineyards, and oliveyards, and fruit trees in abundance: so they did eat, and were filled, and became fat, and delighted themselves in thy great goodness.


Nevertheless they were disobedient, and rebelled against thee, and cast thy law behind their backs, and slew thy prophets which testified against them to turn them to thee, and they wrought great provocations.


Thus they provoked him to anger with their inventions: and the plague brake in upon them.


seeing thou hatest instruction, and castest my words behind thee.


How oft did they provoke him in the wilderness, and grieve him in the desert!


Yet they tempted and provoked the most high God, and kept not his testimonies:


For they provoked him to anger with their high places, and moved him to jealousy with their graven images.


Thou shalt make thee no molten gods.


thou showest loving-kindness unto thousands, and recompensest the iniquity of the fathers into the bosom of their children after them: The Great, The Mighty God, The Lord of hosts, is his name;


The children gather wood, and the fathers kindle the fire, and the women knead their dough, to make cakes to the queen of heaven, and to pour out drink offerings unto other gods, that they may provoke me to anger.


yet they hearkened not unto me, nor inclined their ear, but hardened their neck: they did worse than their fathers.


Therefore thus saith the Lord God; Because thou hast forgotten me, and cast me behind thy back, therefore bear thou also thy lewdness and thy whoredoms.


Then he said unto me, Hast thou seen this, O son of man? Is it a light thing to the house of Judah that they commit the abominations which they commit here? for they have filled the land with violence, and have returned to provoke me to anger: and, lo, they put the branch to their nose.


And he put forth the form of a hand, and took me by a lock of mine head; and the spirit lifted me up between the earth and the heaven, and brought me in the visions of God to Jerusalem, to the door of the inner gate that looketh toward the north; where was the seat of the image of jealousy, which provoketh to jealousy.


Turn ye not unto idols, nor make to yourselves molten gods: I am the Lord your God.


Do we provoke the Lord to jealousy? are we stronger than he?


They have moved me to jealousy with that which is not God; they have provoked me to anger with their vanities: and I will move them to jealousy with those which are not a people; I will provoke them to anger with a foolish nation.


Ye have been rebellious against the Lord from the day that I knew you.


They chose new gods; then was war in the gates: was there a shield or spear seen among forty thousand in Israel?
