For he sacrificed unto the gods of Damascus, which had defeated him: and he said, Because the gods of the kings of Syria help them, therefore will I sacrifice to them, that they may help me. But they were the ruin of him, and of all Israel.


Happy is he that has the God of Jacob for his help, whose hope is in the LORD his God:


Our soul waits for the LORD: he is our help and our shield.


[To the Chief Musician for the sons of Korah. A song upon alamoth.] God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.


But whosoever commits adultery with a woman lacks understanding: he that does it destroys his own soul.


But he that sins against me wrongs his own soul: all they that hate me love death.


Woe unto the wicked! it shall be ill with him: for the reward of his hands shall be done to him.


The look on their countenance does witness against them; and they declare their sin as Sodom, they hide it not. Woe unto their soul! for they have brought evil unto themselves.


Have you not brought this unto yourself, in that you have forsaken the LORD your God, when he led you by the way?


Your own wickedness shall correct you, and your backslidings shall reprove you: know therefore and see that it is an evil thing and bitter, that you have forsaken the LORD your God, and that my fear is not in you, says the Lord GOD of hosts.


Your way and your doings have procured these things unto you; this is your wickedness, because it is bitter, because it reaches unto your heart.


Your iniquities have turned away these things, and your sins have withheld good things from you.


Yet I am the LORD your God from the land of Egypt, and you shall know no god but me: for there is no savior besides me.


O Israel, return unto the LORD your God; for you have fallen because of your iniquity.


And they have not cried unto me with their heart, when they wailed upon their beds: they assemble themselves for grain and wine, and they rebel against me.


Though I have bound and strengthened their arms, yet do they devise evil against me.


But you have profaned it, in that you say, The table of the LORD is polluted; and the fruit thereof, even his food, is contemptible.


You said also, Behold, what a weariness is it! and you have sneered at it, says the LORD of hosts; and you brought that which was torn, and the lame, and the sick; thus you brought an offering: should I accept this of your hand? says the LORD.


And now, I pray you, beseech God that he will be gracious unto us: This has been by your gift: will he regard your persons? says the LORD of hosts.


There is none like unto the God of Jeshurun, who rides upon the heaven to your help, and in his excellency on the clouds.


Happy are you, O Israel: who is like unto you, O people saved by the LORD, the shield of your help, and who is the sword of your excellency! and your enemies shall submit unto you; and you shall tread upon their high places.
