Uriah said to David, “The Holy Box and the soldiers of Israel and Judah are staying in tents. My lord Joab and my lord’s officers are camping out in the field. So it is not right for me to go home to eat and drink and sleep with my wife. As surely as you live, I will not do this.”


If it pleases you, we would like this land to be given to us. Don’t take us to the other side of the Jordan River.”


Why are you trying to discourage the Israelites? You will make them not want to cross the river and take the land that the Lord has given to them!


Love is not rude, it is not selfish, and it cannot be made angry easily. Love does not remember wrongs done against it.


Don’t be interested only in your own life, but care about the lives of others too.


So why did you sit there against the walls of your sheep pens? The brave soldiers of Reuben thought hard about war. But they stayed home listening to the music they played for their sheep.
