There near the Ahava River, I announced that we all should fast. We should fast to make ourselves humble before our God. We wanted to ask God for a safe trip for ourselves, our children, and for everything we owned.

In the fifth month of each year, we have had a special time of crying and fasting. Should we continue to do this?”

Great blessings belong to those who are sad now. God will comfort them.

They were not. But I tell you if you don’t decide now to change your lives, you will all be destroyed too!”

We had lost much time, and it was now dangerous to sail, because it was already after the Jewish day of fasting. So Paul warned them,

We know that our old life was put to death on the cross with Christ. This happened so that our sinful selves would have no power over us. Then we would not be slaves to sin.

It is my own body I fight to make it do what I want. I do this so that I won’t miss getting the prize myself after telling others about it.
