The crowd grew larger and larger. Jesus said, “The people who live today are evil. They ask for a miracle as a sign from God. But no miracle will be done to prove anything to them. The only sign will be the miracle that happened to Jonah.


So the people asked, “What miraculous sign will you do for us? If we can see you do a miracle, then we will believe you. What will you do?


They were saying this to trick Jesus. They wanted to catch him saying something wrong so that they could have a charge against him. But Jesus stooped down and started writing on the ground with his finger.


The Jews ask for miraculous signs, and the Greeks want wisdom.
