Esav said to Ya`akov, *Please feed me with that same red stew, for I am famished.* Therefore his name was called Edom.


Esav lived in the hill country of Se`ir. Esav is Edom.


This is the history of the generations of Esav the father of the Edom in the hill country of Se`ir:


Remember, LORD, against the children of Edom, the day of Yerushalayim; who said, *Raze it! Raze it even to its foundation!*


The burden of Dumah. One calls to me out of Se`ir, *Watchman, what of the night? Watchman, what of the night?*


The watchman said, *The morning comes, and also the night. If you will inquire, inquire. Come back again.*


For their princes are at Tzo`an, and their ambassadors have come to Chanes.


Then took I the cup at the LORD's hand, and made all the nations to drink, to whom the LORD had sent me:


Edom, and Mo'av, and the children of `Ammon;


Don't let your heart faint, neither fear for the news that shall be heard in the land; for news shall come one year, and after that in another year [shall come] news, and violence in the land, ruler against ruler.


Moreover the word of the LORD came to me, saying,


Egypt will be a desolation, and Edom will be a desolate wilderness, for the violence done to the children of Yehudah, because they have shed innocent blood in their land.


He who breaks open the way goes up before them. They break through the gate, and go out. And their king passes on before them, with the LORD at their head.


You will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you aren't troubled, for all this must happen, but the end is not yet.


*When you hear of wars and rumors of wars, don't be troubled. For those must happen, but the end is not yet.
