Moreover `Uzziyah built towers in Yerushalayim at the corner gate, and at the valley gate, and at the turning [of the wall], and fortified them.


They said to me, The remnant who are left of the captivity there in the province are in great affliction and reproach: the wall of Yerushalayim also is broken down, and the gates of it are burned with fire.


Then I brought up the princes of Yehudah on the wall, and appointed two great companies who gave thanks and went in procession. [One went] on the right hand on the wall toward the dung gate;


I arose in the night, I and some few men with me; neither told I any man what my God put into my heart to do for Yerushalayim; neither was there any animal with me, except the animal that I rode on.


Then went I up in the night by the brook, and viewed the wall; and I turned back, and entered by the valley gate, and so returned.


Then said I to them, You see the evil case that we are in, how Yerushalayim lies waste, and the gates of it are burned with fire: come, and let us build up the wall of Yerushalayim, that we be no more a reproach.


I said to the king, Let the king live forever: why should not my face be sad, when the city, the place of my fathers' tombs, lies waste, and the gates of it are consumed with fire?


Go up on her walls, and destroy; but don't make a full end: take away her branches; for they are not the LORD's.
