Behold, he breaks down, and it can't be built again. He imprisons a man, and there can be no release.


When he gives quietness, who then can condemn? When he hides his face, who then can see him? Alike whether to a nation, or to a man,


God who is wise in heart, and mighty in strength: who has hardened himself against him, and prospered?


Remember, LORD, against the children of Edom, the day of Yerushalayim; who said, *Raze it! Raze it even to its foundation!*


The LORD brings the counsel of the nations to nothing. He makes the thoughts of the peoples to be of no effect.


There is no wisdom nor understanding nor counsel against the LORD.


They will only bow down under the prisoners, and will fall under the slain. For all this his anger is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still.


They will fly down on the shoulders of the Pelishtim on the west. Together they will plunder the children of the east. They will extend their power over Edom and Mo'av, and the children of `Ammon will obey them.


It won't be quenched night nor day. Its smoke will go up forever. From generation to generation, it will lie waste. No one will pass through it forever and ever.


For my sword has drunk its fill in the sky. Behold, it will come down on Edom, and on the people of my curse, for judgment.


There is hope for your latter end, says the LORD; and [your] children shall come again to their own border.


Therefore hear the counsel of the LORD, that he has taken against Edom; and his purposes, that he has purposed against the inhabitants of Teman: Surely they shall drag them away, [even] the little ones of the flock; surely he shall make their habitation desolate over them.


Of Edom. Thus says the LORD of Armies: Is wisdom no more in Teman? is counsel perished from the prudent? is their wisdom vanished?


Flee you, turn back, dwell in the depths, inhabitants of Dedan; for I will bring the calamity of Esav on him, the time that I shall visit him.


They shall eat up your harvest, and your bread, [which] your sons and your daughters should eat; they shall eat up your flocks and your herds; they shall eat up your vines and your fig trees; they shall beat down your fortified cities, in which you trust, with the sword.


Who is he who says, and it comes to pass, when the Lord doesn't command it?


You shall fall by the sword; I will judge you in the border of Yisra'el; and you shall know that I am the LORD.


therefore thus says the Lord GOD, I will stretch out my hand on Edom, and will cut off man and animal from it; and I will make it desolate from Teman; even to Dedan shall they fall by the sword.


I will lay my vengeance on Edom by the hand of my people Yisra'el; and they shall do in Edom according to my anger and according to my wrath; and they shall know my vengeance, says the Lord GOD.


I will make you a bare rock; you shall be a place for the spreading of nets; you shall be built no more: for I the LORD have spoken it, says the Lord GOD.


I will lay your cities waste, and you shall be desolate; and you shall know that I am the LORD.


I will make you a perpetual desolation, and your cities shall not be inhabited; and you shall know that I am the LORD.


Thus says the LORD: *For three transgressions of Edom, yes, for four, I will not turn away its punishment; because he pursued his brother with the sword, and cast off all pity, and his anger raged continually, and he kept his wrath forever;


I will strike the winter house with the summer house; and the houses of ivory will perish, and the great houses will have an end,* says the LORD.


Forasmuch therefore as you trample on the poor, and take taxes from him of wheat: You have built houses of hewn stone, but you will not dwell in them. You have planted pleasant vineyards, but you shall not drink their wine.


*For, behold, the LORD commands, and the great house will be smashed to pieces, and the little house into bits.


Go to Kalneh, and see; and from there go to Chamat the great; then go down to Gat of the Pelishtim. are they better than these kingdoms? or is their border greater than your border?


The vision of `Ovadyah This is what the Lord GOD says about Edom. We have heard news from the LORD, and an ambassador is sent among the nations, saying, *Arise, and let's rise up against her in battle.


For the violence done to your brother Ya`akov, shame will cover you, and you will be cut off forever.


but Esav I hated, and made his mountains a desolation, and gave his heritage to the jackals of the wilderness.*


*He who is not with me is against me, and he who doesn't gather with me, scatters.
