The king commanded Chilkiyah the Kohen, and Achikam the son of Shafan, and `Akhbor the son of Mikhayahu, and Shafan the scribe, and `Asayah the king's servant, saying,


So Chilkiyah the Kohen, and Achikam, and `Akhbor, and Shafan, and `Asayah, went to Chuldah the prophetess, the wife of Shallum the son of Tikvah, the son of Charchas, keeper of the wardrobe (now she lived in Yerushalayim in the second quarter); and they talked with her.


The king commanded Chilkiyah, and Achikam the son of Shafan, and `Avdon the son of Mikhah, and Shafan the scribe, and `Asayah the king's servant, saying,


until the time that his word happened, and the LORD's word proved him true.


and Yehoiakim the king sent men into Egypt, [namely], Elnatan the son of `Akhbor, and certain men with him, into Egypt;


But the hand of Achikam the son of Shafan was with Yirmeyahu, that they should not give him into the hand of the people to put him to death.


Now at that time the king of Bavel's army was besieging Yerushalayim; and Yirmeyahu the prophet was shut up in the court of the guard, which was in the king of Yehudah's house.


Then Tzidkiyahu the king commanded, and they committed Yirmeyahu into the court of the guard; and they gave him daily a loaf of bread out of the bakers' street, until all the bread in the city was spent. Thus Yirmeyahu remained in the court of the guard.


So they drew up Yirmeyahu with the cords, and took him up out of the dungeon: and Yirmeyahu remained in the court of the guard.


So Yirmeyahu abode in the court of the guard until the day that Yerushalayim was taken.


So Nevuzar'adan 1 the captain of the guard sent, and Nevushazban 1, Rav-Saris, and Nergal-Sar'etzer, Rav-Mag, and all the chief officers of the king of Bavel;


Now the word of the LORD came to Yirmeyahu, while he was shut up in the court of the guard, saying,


The word which came to Yirmeyahu from the LORD, after that Nevuzar'adan 1 the captain of the guard had let him go from Ramah, when he had taken him being bound in chains among all the captives of Yerushalayim and Yehudah, who were carried away captive to Bavel.


Now while he was not yet gone back, Go back then, [said he], to Gedalyahu the son of Achikam, the son of Shafan, whom the king of Bavel has made governor over the cities of Yehudah, and dwell with him among the people; or go wherever it seems right to you to go. So the captain of the guard gave him food and a present, and let him go.


Then went Yirmeyahu to Gedalyahu the son of Achikam to Mitzpah, and lived with him among the people who were left in the land.


Now when all the captains of the forces who were in the fields, even they and their men, heard that the king of Bavel had made Gedalyahu the son of Achikam governor in the land, and had committed to him men, and women, and children, and of the poorest of the land, of those who were not carried away captive to Bavel;


Now it happened in the seventh month, that Yishma'el the son of Netanyah, the son of Elishama, of the seed royal and [one of] the chief officers of the king, and ten men with him, came to Gedalyahu the son of Achikam to Mitzpah; and there they ate bread together in Mitzpah.
