He carried away Yehoiakim to Bavel; and the king's mother, and the king's wives, and his officers, and the chief men of the land, carried he into captivity from Yerushalayim to Bavel.


Princes shall come out of Egypt. Kush shall hurry to stretch out her hands to God.


The bloodthirsty hate a man of integrity; and they seek the life of the upright.


Neither let the foreigner, who has joined himself to the LORD, speak, saying, the LORD will surely separate me from his people; neither let the eunuch say, Behold, I am a dry tree.


Can the Kushite change his skin, or the leopard his spots? then may you also do good, who are accustomed to do evil.


Then Pashchur struck Yirmeyahu the prophet, and put him in the stocks that were in the upper gate of Binyamin, which was in the house of the LORD.


Then said the princes and all the people to the Kohanim and to the prophets: This man is not worthy of death; for he has spoken to us in the name of the LORD our God.

When he was in the gate of Binyamin, a captain of the guard was there, whose name was Yeriyah, the son of Shelemyahu, the son of Chananyah; and he laid hold on Yirmeyahu the prophet, saying, You are falling away to the Kasdim.


`Eved-Melekh went forth out of the king's house, and spoke to the king, saying,


They hate him who reproves in the gate, and they abhor him who speaks blamelessly.


All the land will be made like the `Aravah, from Geva to Rimmon south of Yerushalayim; and she will be lifted up, and will dwell in her place, from Binyamin's gate to the place of the first gate, to the corner gate, and from the tower of Chanan'el to the king's winepresses.


So the last will be first, and the first last. For many are called, but few are chosen.*


then shall his father and his mother lay hold on him, and bring him out to the elders of his city, and to the gate of his place;


He shall flee to one of those cities, and shall stand at the entrance of the gate of the city, and declare his cause in the ears of the elders of that city; and they shall take him into the city to them, and give him a place, that he may dwell among them.
