When the angel stretched out his hand toward Yerushalayim to destroy it, the LORD repented him of the evil, and said to the angel who destroyed the people, It is enough; now stay your hand. The angel of the LORD was by the threshing floor of Aravna the Yevusi.


Chizkiyahu the king, and Yeshaiyahu the prophet the son of Amotz, prayed because of this, and cried to heaven.


Go you, inquire of the LORD for me, and for those who are left in Yisra'el and in Yehudah, concerning the words of the book that is found; for great is the wrath of the LORD that is poured out on us, because our fathers have not kept the word of the LORD, to do according to all that is written in this book.


The LORD repented of the evil which he said he would do to his people.


For, behold, the LORD comes forth out of his place to punish the inhabitants of the earth for their iniquity. The earth also will disclose her blood, and will no longer cover her slain.


It happened, when king Chizkiyahu heard it, that he tore his clothes, covered himself with sackcloth, and went into the LORD's house.


It may be the LORD your God will hear the words of Ravshakeh, whom the king of Ashur his master has sent to defy the living God, and will rebuke the words which the LORD your God has heard. Therefore lift up your prayer for the remnant that is left.'*


Only know for certain that, if you put me to death, you will bring innocent blood on yourselves, and on this city, and on the inhabitants of it; for of a truth the LORD has sent me to you to speak all these words in your ears.


It may be they will listen, and turn every man from his evil way; that I may repent me of the evil which I purpose to do to them because of the evil of their doings.


Therefore now thus says the LORD, the God Tzeva'ot, the God of Yisra'el: Why commit you [this] great evil against your own souls, to cut off from you man and woman, infant and suckling, out of the midst of Yehudah, to leave you none remaining;


The LORD relented concerning this. *It shall not be,* says the LORD.


You have devised shame to your house, by cutting off many peoples, and have sinned against your soul.


The people of Beit-El sent Sar'etzer and Regem-Melekh, and their men, to entreat the LORD's favor,


even the censers of these sinners against their own lives; and let them be made beaten plates for a covering of the altar: for they offered them before the LORD; therefore they are holy; and they shall be a sign to the children of Yisra'el.


that on you may come all the righteous blood shed on the earth, from the blood of righteous Hevel to the blood of Zekharyah son of Berekhyah, whom you killed between the sanctuary and the altar.


But if it is of God, you will not be able to overthrow it, and you would be found even to be fighting against God!*


For they poured out the blood of the holy ones and the prophets, and you have given them blood to drink. They deserve this.*
