For our fathers have trespassed, and done that which was evil in the sight of the LORD our God, and have forsaken him, and have turned away their faces from the habitation of the LORD, and turned their backs.


LORD, in trouble they have visited you. They poured out a prayer when your chastening was on them.


But they are together brutish and foolish: the instruction of idols! it is but a stock.


I will scatter them as with an east wind before the enemy; I will show them the back, and not the face, in the day of their calamity.


a wild donkey used to the wilderness, that snuffs up the wind in her desire; in her occasion who can turn her away? all those who seek her will not weary themselves; in her month they shall find her.

Lord, righteousness belongs to you, but to us confusion of face, as at this day; to the men of Yehudah, and to the inhabitants of Yerushalayim, and to all Yisra'el, who are near, and who are far off, through all the countries where you have driven them, because of their trespass that they have trespassed against you.


My people consult with their wooden idol, and answer to a stick of wood. Indeed the spirit of prostitution has led them astray, and they have been unfaithful to their God.


I will go and return to my place, until they acknowledge their offense, and seek my face. In their affliction they will seek me earnestly.*


They haven't cried to me with their heart, but they howl on their beds. They assemble themselves for grain and new wine. They turn away from me.
