Will God hear his cry when trouble comes on him?


Then will they call on me, but I will not answer. They will seek me diligently, but they will not find me;


The sacrifice made by the wicked is an abomination to the LORD, but the prayer of the upright is his delight.


The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination: how much more, when he brings it with a wicked mind!


He who turns away his ear from hearing the law, even his prayer is an abomination.


Why have we fasted, [say they], and you don't see? [why] have we afflicted our soul, and you take no knowledge? Behold, in the day of your fast you find [your own] pleasure, and exact all your labors.


Therefore thus says the LORD, Behold, I will bring evil on them, which they shall not be able to escape; and they shall cry to me, but I will not listen to them.


Therefore don't you pray for this people, neither lift up cry nor prayer for them; for I will not hear them in the time that they cry to me because of their trouble.


Then said the LORD to me, Though Moshe and Shemu'el stood before me, yet my mind would not be toward this people: cast them out of my sight, and let them go forth.


They shall die grievous deaths: they shall not be lamented, neither shall they be buried; they shall be as dung on the surface of the ground; and they shall be consumed by the sword, and by famine; and their dead bodies shall be food for the birds of the sky, and for the animals of the earth.


I will strike the inhabitants of this city, both man and animal: they shall die of a great pestilence.


I will send the sword, the famine, and the pestilence, among them, until they be consumed from off the land that I gave to them and to their fathers.


Behold, the mounds, they are come to the city to take it; and the city is given into the hand of the Kasdim who fight against it, because of the sword, and of the famine, and of the pestilence; and what you have spoken has happened; and behold, you see it.


To what purpose comes there to me frankincense from Sheva, and the sweet cane from a far country? your burnt offerings are not acceptable, nor your sacrifices pleasing to me.


I will utterly consume them, says the LORD: there shall be no grapes on the vine, nor figs on the fig tree, and the leaf shall fade; and [the things that] I have given them shall pass away from them.


I will scatter them also among the nations, whom neither they nor their fathers have known; and I will send the sword after them, until I have consumed them.


Or if I send a pestilence into that land, and pour out my wrath on it in blood, to cut off from it man and animal;


For thus says the Lord GOD: How much more when I send my four sore judgments on Yerushalayim, the sword, and the famine, and the evil animals, and the pestilence, to cut off from it man and animal!


Therefore will I also deal in wrath; my eye shall not spare, neither will I have pity; and though they cry in my ears with a loud voice, yet will I not hear them.


They will go with their flocks and with their herds to seek the LORD; but they won't find him. He has withdrawn himself from them.


I hate, I despise your feasts, and I can't stand your solemn assemblies.


Then they will cry to the LORD, but he will not answer them. Yes, he will hide his face from them at that time, because they made their deeds evil.*


It has come to pass that, as he called, and they refused to listen, so they will call, and I will not listen,* said the LORD of Armies;


*Oh that there were one among you who would shut the doors, that you might not kindle fire on my altar in vain! I have no pleasure in you,* says the LORD of Armies, *neither will I accept an offering at your hand.


This again you do: you cover the altar of the LORD with tears, with weeping, and with sighing, because he doesn't regard the offering any more, neither receives it with good will at your hand.


And behold, a pale horse, and he who sat on it, his name was Death. She'ol followed with him. Authority over one fourth of the earth, to kill with the sword, with famine, with death, and by the wild animals of the earth was given to him.
