On the ninth day of the [fourth] month the famine was sore in the city, so that there was no bread for the people of the land.


He called for a famine on the land. He destroyed the food supplies.


Therefore the Lord, the LORD of Armies, the Mighty One of Yisra'el, says: *Ah, I will get relief from my adversaries, and avenge myself of my enemies;


Stop trusting in man, whose breath is in his nostrils; for of what account is he?


Moreover the LORD said, *Because the daughters of Tziyon are haughty, and walk with outstretched necks and flirting eyes, walking to trip as they go, jingling ornaments on their feet;


But Ravshakeh said, *Has my master sent me only to your master and to you, to speak these words, and not to the men who sit on the wall, who will eat their own dung and drink their own urine with you?*


Therefore my people go into captivity for lack of knowledge. Their honorable men are famished, and their multitudes are parched with thirst.


Thus says your Lord GOD, and your God who pleads the cause of his people, Behold, I have taken out of your hand the cup of staggering, even the bowl of the cup of my wrath; you shall no more drink it again:


One will devour on the right hand, and be hungry; and he will eat on the left hand, and they will not be satisfied. Everyone will eat the flesh of his own arm:


Then Tzidkiyahu the king commanded, and they committed Yirmeyahu into the court of the guard; and they gave him daily a loaf of bread out of the bakers' street, until all the bread in the city was spent. Thus Yirmeyahu remained in the court of the guard.


My lord the king, these men have done evil in all that they have done to Yirmeyahu the prophet, whom they have cast into the dungeon; and he is likely to die in the place where he is, because of the famine; for there is no more bread in the city.


For through the anger of the LORD did it happen in Yerushalayim and Yehudah, until he had cast them out from his presence. Tzidkiyahu rebelled against the king of Bavel.


In the fourth month, in the ninth day of the month, the famine was sore in the city, so that there was no bread for the people of the land.


We have drunken our water for money; Our wood is sold to us.


Son of man, when a land sins against me by committing a trespass, and I stretch out my hand on it, and break the staff of the bread of it, and send famine on it, and cut off from it man and animal;


When I break your staff of bread, ten women shall bake your bread in one oven, and they shall deliver your bread again by weight: and you shall eat, and not be satisfied.


*I also have given you cleanness of teeth in all your cities, and lack of bread in every town; yet you haven't returned to me,* says the LORD.


Now why do you cry out aloud? Is there no king in you? Has your counselor perished, that pains have taken hold of you as of a woman in travail?
