Then the LORD rained on Sedom and on `Amorah sulfur and fire from the LORD out of the sky.


He overthrew those cities, all the plain, all the inhabitants of the cities, and that which grew on the ground.


The burden of Bavel, which Yeshaiyahu the son of Amotz saw:


Behold, here comes a troop of men, horsemen in pairs.* He answered, *Fallen, fallen is Bavel; and all the engraved images of her gods are broken to the ground.


Sit you silent, and get you into darkness, daughter of the Kasdim; for you shall no more be called The mistress of kingdoms.


Assemble yourselves, all you, and hear; who among them has declared these things? He whom the LORD loves shall perform his pleasure on Bavel, and his arm [shall be on] the Kasdim.


It shall happen, when seventy years are accomplished, that I will punish the king of Bavel, and that nation, says the LORD, for their iniquity, and the land of the Kasdim; and I will make it desolate forever.


As in the overthrow of Sedom and `Amorah and the neighbor cities of it, says the LORD, no man shall dwell there, neither shall any son of man sojourn therein.


As when God overthrew Sedom and `Amorah and the neighbor cities of it, says the LORD, so shall no man dwell there, neither shall any son of man sojourn therein.


They shall not take of you a stone for a corner, nor a stone for foundations; but you shall be desolate for ever, says the LORD.


The land trembles and is in pain; for the purposes of the LORD against Bavel do stand, to make the land of Bavel a desolation, without inhabitant.


How is Sheshakh taken! and the praise of the whole earth seized! how is Bavel become a desolation among the nations!


and say, LORD, you have spoken concerning this place, to cut it off, that none shall dwell therein, neither man nor animal, but that it shall be desolate forever.


The king spoke and said, Is not this great Bavel, which I have built for the royal dwelling place, by the might of my power and for the glory of my majesty?


*I have overthrown some of you, as when God overthrew Sedom and `Amorah, and you were like a burning stick plucked out of the fire; yet you haven't returned to me,* says the LORD.


Therefore as I live, says the LORD of Armies, the God of Yisra'el, surely Mo'av will be as Sedom, and the children of `Ammon as `Amorah, a possession of nettles, and salt pits, and a perpetual desolation. The remnant of my people will plunder them, and the survivors of my nation will inherit them.


As Yeshaiyahu has said before, *Unless the Lord of Armies had left us a seed, we would have become like Sedom, and would have been made like `Amorah.*


[and that] the whole land of it is sulfur, and salt, [and] a burning, [that] it is not sown, nor bears, nor any grass grows therein, like the overthrow of Sedom and `Amorah, Admah and Tzevoyim, which the LORD overthrew in his anger, and in his wrath:


The merchants of the earth weep and mourn over her, for no one buys their merchandise any more;


They cast dust on their heads, and cried, weeping and mourning, saying, 'Woe, woe, the great city, in which all who had their ships in the sea were made rich by reason of her great wealth!' For in one hour is she made desolate.
