Eliyahu the Tishbi, who was of the foreigners of Gil`ad, said to Ach'av, As the LORD, the God of Yisra'el, lives, before whom I stand, there shall not be dew nor rain these years, but according to my word.


It happened after many days, that the word of the LORD came to Eliyahu, in the third year, saying, Go, show yourself to Ach'av; and I will send rain on the earth.


Now therefore send, and gather to me all Yisra'el to Mount Karmel, and the prophets of Ba`al four hundred fifty, and the prophets of the Asherah four hundred, who eat at Izevel's table.


Tzidkiyahu the son of Kena`anah made him horns of iron, and said, Thus says the LORD, With these shall you push the Syrians, until they be consumed.


The LORD said to him, 'How?' He said, 'I will go forth, and will be a lying spirit in the mouth of all his prophets.' He said, 'You shall entice him, and shall prevail also: go forth, and do so.'


Mikhayahu said, If you return at all in shalom, the LORD has not spoken by me. He said, Hear, you peoples, all of you.


Then the king of Yisra'el gathered the prophets together, about four hundred men, and said to them, Shall I go against Ramot Gil`ad to battle, or shall I forbear? They said, Go up; for the Lord will deliver it into the hand of the king.


It happened, as they were burying a man, that behold, they spied a band; and they cast the man into the tomb of Elisha: and as soon as the man touched the bones of Elisha, he revived, and stood up on his feet.


He took the mantle of Eliyahu that fell from him, and struck the waters, and said, Where is the LORD, the God of Eliyahu? and when he also had struck the waters, they were divided here and there; and Elisha went over.


He went forth to the spring of the waters, and cast salt therein, and said, Thus says the LORD, I have healed these waters; there shall not be from there any more death or miscarrying.


But he said, Then bring meal. He cast it into the pot; and he said, Pour out for the people, that they may eat. There was no harm in the pot.


His servant said, What, should I set this before a hundred men? But he said, Give the people, that they may eat; for thus says the LORD, They shall eat, and shall leave of it.


Then went he down, and dipped [himself] seven times in the Yarden, according to the saying of the man of God; and his flesh came again like the flesh of a little child, and he was clean.


The leprosy therefore of Na`aman shall cleave to you, and to your seed forever. He went out from his presence a leper [as white] as snow.


and that captain answered the man of God, and said, Now, behold, if the LORD should make windows in heaven, might such a thing be? and he said, Behold, you shall see it with your eyes, but shall not eat of it:


Then the captain on whose hand the king leaned answered the man of God, and said, Behold, if the LORD should make windows in heaven, might this thing be? He said, Behold, you shall see it with your eyes, but shall not eat of it.


Our soul has escaped like a bird out of the fowler's snare. The snare is broken, and we have escaped.


For man also doesn't know his time. As the fish that are taken in an evil net, and as the birds that are caught in the snare, even so are the sons of men snared in an evil time, when it falls suddenly on them.


The watchmen who go about the city found me; *Have you seen him whom my soul loves?*


I have set watchmen on your walls, Yerushalayim; they shall never hold their shalom day nor night: you who call on the LORD, take no rest,


But I was like a gentle lamb that is led to the slaughter; and I didn't know that they had devised devices against me, [saying], Let us destroy the tree with the fruit of it, and let us cut him off from the land of the living, that his name may be no more remembered.


Then said I, Ah, Lord GOD! behold, the prophets tell them, You shall not see the sword, neither shall you have famine; but I will give you assured shalom in this place.


I have seen folly in the prophets of Shomron; they prophesied by Ba`al, and caused my people Yisra'el to err.


For there shall be a day, that the watchmen on the hills of Efrayim shall cry, Arise you, and let us go up to Tziyon to the LORD our God.


They have healed also the hurt of my people slightly, saying, Shalom, shalom; when there is no shalom.


I set watchmen over you, [saying], Listen to the sound of the shofar; but they said, We will not listen.


Your prophets have seen for you false and foolish visions; They have not uncovered your iniquity, to bring back your captivity, But have seen for you false oracles and causes of banishment.


[It is] because of the sins of her prophets, [and] the iniquities of her Kohanim, That have shed the blood of the just in the midst of her.


Son of man, I have made you a watchman to the house of Yisra'el: therefore hear the word at my mouth, and give them warning from me.


So you, son of man, I have set you a watchman to the house of Yisra'el; therefore hear the word at my mouth, and give them warning from me.


*Listen to this, you Kohanim! Listen, house of Yisra'el, and give ear, house of the king! For the judgment is against you; for you have been a snare at Mitzpah, and a net spread on Tavor.


The days of visitation have come. The days of reckoning have come. Yisra'el will consider the prophet to be a fool, and the man who is inspired to be insane, because of the abundance of your sins, and because your hostility is great.


They have deeply corrupted themselves, as in the days of Gevah. He will remember their iniquity. He will punish them for their sins.


The best of them is like a brier. The most upright is worse than a thorn hedge. The day of your watchmen, even your visitation, has come; now is the time of their confusion.


If I hadn't done among them the works which no one else did, they wouldn't have had sin. But now have they seen and also hated both me and my Father.


For if the truth of God through my lie abounded to his glory, why am I also still judged as a sinner?


Obey your leaders and submit to them, for they watch on behalf of your souls, as those who will give account, that they may do this with joy, and not with groaning, for that would be unprofitable for you.
