Avram passed through the land to the place of Shekhem, to the oak of Moreh. The Kena`ani was then in the land.


Then Yarov`am built Shekhem in the hill country of Efrayim, and lived therein; and he went out from there, and built Penu'el.


Then we departed from the river Ahava on the twelfth [day] of the first month, to go to Yerushalayim: and the hand of our God was on us, and he delivered us from the hand of the enemy and the bandit by the way.


The LORD said to me, A conspiracy is found among the men of Yehudah, and among the inhabitants of Yerushalayim.


There is a conspiracy of her prophets in the midst of it, like a roaring lion ravening the prey: they have devoured souls; they take treasure and precious things; they have made her widows many in the midst of it.


Her princes in the midst of it are like wolves ravening the prey, to shed blood, [and] to destroy souls, that they may get dishonest gain.


Slanderous men have been in you to shed blood; and in you they have eaten on the mountains: in the midst of you they have committed lewdness.


Thus will I make your lewdness to cease from you, and your prostitution [brought] from the land of Egypt; so that you shall not lift up your eyes to them, nor remember Egypt any more.


Now I will uncover her lewdness in the sight of her lovers, and no one will deliver her out of my hand.


There is cursing, lying, murder, stealing, and committing adultery; they break boundaries, and bloodshed causes bloodshed.


*Listen to this, you Kohanim! Listen, house of Yisra'el, and give ear, house of the king! For the judgment is against you; for you have been a snare at Mitzpah, and a net spread on Tavor.


The rebels are deep in slaughter; but I discipline all of them.


When I would heal Yisra'el, then the iniquity of Efrayim is uncovered, also the wickedness of Shomron; for they commit falsehood, and the thief enters in, and the gang of robbers ravages outside.


Please listen to this, you heads of the house of Ya`akov, and rulers of the house of Yisra'el, who abhor justice, and pervert all equity.


The godly man has perished out of the earth, and there is no one upright among men. They all lie in wait for blood; every man hunts his brother with a net.


Her princes in the midst of her are roaring lions. Her judges are evening wolves. They leave nothing until the next day.


It was now two days before the feast of the Pesach and the matzah, and the chief Kohanim and the scribes sought how they might seize him by deception, and kill him.


The chief Kohanim therefore and the Perushim gathered a council, and said, *What are we doing? For this man does many signs.


When they heard it, they lifted up their voice to God with one accord, and said, *O Lord, you are God, who made the heaven, the earth, the sea, and all that is in them;
