He said, *Don't lay your hand on the boy, neither do anything to him. For now I know that you fear God, seeing you have not withheld your son, your only son, from me.*


Re'uven heard it, and delivered him out of their hand, and said, *Let's not take his life.*


It happened, when Yosef came to his brothers, that they stripped Yosef of his coat, the coat of many colors that was on him;


Re'uven answered them, saying, *Didn't I tell you, saying, 'Don't sin against the child,' and you wouldn't listen? Therefore also, behold, his blood is required.*


He didn't lay his hand on the nobles of the children of Yisra'el. They saw God, and ate and drank.


Moreover Elnatan and Delayah and Gemaryah had made intercession to the king that he would not burn the scroll; but he would not hear them.
