Ya`akov said to Shim`on and Levi, *You have troubled me, to make me odious to the inhabitants of the land, among the Kena`anim and the Perizzi. I am few in number. They will gather themselves together against me and strike me, and I will be destroyed, I and my house.*


They gave to Ya`akov all the foreign gods which were in their hands, and the rings which were in their ears; and Ya`akov hid them under the oak which was by Shekhem.


Asa and the people who were with him pursued them to Gerar: and there fell of the Kushim so many that they could not recover themselves; for they were destroyed before the LORD, and before his army; and they carried away very much booty.


They struck all the cities round about Gerar; for the fear of the LORD came on them: and they despoiled all the cities; for there was much spoil in them.


The fear of the LORD fell on all the kingdoms of the lands that were round about Yehudah, so that they made no war against Yehoshafat.


He allowed no one to do them wrong. Yes, he reproved kings for their sakes,


There they were in great fear, for God is in the generation of the righteous.


I will send my terror before you, and will confuse all the people to whom you come, and I will make all your enemies turn their backs to you.


For I will drive out nations before you and enlarge your borders; neither shall any man desire your land when you go up to appear before the LORD, your God, three times in the year.


There shall no man be able to stand before you: the LORD your God shall lay the fear of you and the dread of you on all the land that you shall tread on, as he has spoken to you.


This day will I begin to put the dread of you and the fear of you on the peoples who are under the whole sky, who shall hear the report of you, and shall tremble, and be in anguish because of you.


It happened, when all the kings of the Amori, who were beyond the Yarden westward, and all the kings of the Kena`anim, who were by the sea, heard how that the LORD had dried up the waters of the Yarden from before the children of Yisra'el, until we were passed over, that their heart melted, neither was there spirit in them any more, because of the children of Yisra'el.


He took a yoke of oxen, and cut them in pieces, and sent them throughout all the borders of Yisra'el by the hand of messengers, saying, Whoever doesn't come forth after Sha'ul and after Shemu'el, so shall it be done to his oxen. The dread of the LORD fell on the people, and they came out as one man.


There was a trembling in the camp, in the field, and among all the people; the garrison, and the spoilers, they also trembled; and the earth quaked: so there was an exceeding great trembling.
