Avram passed through the land to the place of Shekhem, to the oak of Moreh. The Kena`ani was then in the land.


Let us arise, and go up to Beit-El. I will make there an altar to God, who answered me in the day of my distress, and was with me in the way which I went.*


They traveled, and a terror of God was on the cities that were around them, and they didn't pursue the sons of Ya`akov.


He took the calf which they had made, and burnt it with fire, ground it to powder, and scattered it on the water, and made the children of Yisra'el drink of it.


In that day, men shall cast away their idols of silver, and their idols of gold, which have been made for themselves to worship, to the moles and to the bats;


You shall defile the overlaying of your engraved images of silver, and the plating of your molten images of gold. You shall cast them away as an unclean thing. You shall tell it, *Go away!*


I will visit on her the days of the Ba`alim, to which she burned incense, when she decked herself with her earrings and her jewels, and went after her lovers, and forgot me,* says the LORD.


The engraved images of their gods shall you burn with fire: you shall not covet the silver or the gold that is on them, nor take it to you, lest you be snared therein; for it is an abomination to the LORD your God.


But thus shall you deal with them: you shall break down their altars, and dash in pieces their pillars, and hew down their Asherim, and burn their engraved images with fire.


All the men of Shekhem assembled themselves together, and all the house of Millo, and went and made Avimelekh king, by the oak of the pillar that was in Shekhem.
