1 Now when these things were done, the princes drew near to me, saying, The people of Yisra'el, and the Kohanim and the Levites, have not separated themselves from the peoples of the lands, [doing] according to their abominations, even of the Kena`anim, the Chitti, the Perizzi, the Yevusi, the `Ammonim, the Mo`avim, the Egyptians, and the Amori.

In the fourth generation they will come here again, for the iniquity of the Amori is not yet full.*


Now king Shlomo loved many foreign women, together with the daughter of Par`oh, women of the Mo`avim, `Ammonim, Edom, Tzidonim, and Chitti;


He did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD, after the abominations of the nations whom the LORD cast out before the children of Yisra'el.


As for all the people who were left of the Chitti, and the Amori, and the Perizzi, and the Chivvi, and the Yevusi, who were not of Yisra'el;


Shekhanyahu the son of Yechi'el, one of the sons of `Elam, answered Ezra, We have trespassed against our God, and have married foreign women of the peoples of the land: yet now there is hope for Yisra'el concerning this thing.


and that whoever didn't come within three days, according to the counsel of the princes and the elders, all his substance should be forfeited, and himself separated from the assembly of the captivity.


In those days also saw I the Jews who had married women of Ashdod, of `Ammon, [and] of Mo'av:


Now Toviyah the `Ammonite was by him, and he said, Even that which they are building, if a fox go up, he shall break down their stone wall.


But it happened that when Sanvallat, Toviyah, the Arabians, the `Ammonim, and the Ashdodi heard that the repairing of the walls of Yerushalayim went forward, [and] that the breaches began to be stopped, then they were very angry;


The seed of Yisra'el separated themselves from all foreigners, and stood and confessed their sins, and the iniquities of their fathers.


but mixed themselves with the nations, and learned their works.


It shall be, when the LORD shall bring you into the land of the Kena`ani, and the Chittite, and the Amori, and the Chivvi, and the Yevusi, which he swore to your fathers to give you, a land flowing with milk and honey, that you shall keep this service in this month.


For my angel shall go before you, and bring you in to the Amori, the Chittite, the Perizzi, the Kena`ani, the Chivvi, and the Yevusi; and I will cut them off.


For how would people know that I have found favor in your sight, I and your people? Isn't it in that you go with us, so that we are separated, I and your people, from all the people who are on the surface of the earth?*


Depart you, depart you, go you out from there, touch no unclean thing; go you out of the midst of her; cleanse yourselves, you who bear the vessels of the LORD.


When the princes of Yehudah heard these things, they came up from the king's house to the house of the LORD; and they sat in the entry of the new gate of the LORD's [house].


Then said the princes and all the people to the Kohanim and to the prophets: This man is not worthy of death; for he has spoken to us in the name of the LORD our God.


You shall not do as they do in the land of Egypt, where you lived: and you shall not do as they do in the land of Kena`an, where I am bringing you; neither shall you walk in their statutes.


Yehudah has dealt treacherously, and an abomination is committed in Yisra'el and in Yerushalayim; for Yehudah has profaned the holiness of the LORD which he loves, and has married the daughter of a foreign god.


For from the top of the rocks I see him, From the hills I see him: behold, it is a people that dwells alone, And shall not be reckoned among the nations.


Behold, one of the children of Yisra'el came and brought to his brothers a Midyanite woman in the sight of Moshe, and in the sight of all the congregation of the children of Yisra'el, while they were weeping at the door of the tent of meeting.


When you are come into the land which the LORD your God gives you, you shall not learn to do after the abominations of those nations.


The children of the third generation who are born to them shall enter into the assembly of the LORD.


When the LORD your God shall bring you into the land where you go to possess it, and shall cast out many nations before you, the Chittite, and the Girgashi, and the Amori, and the Kena`ani, and the Perizzi, and the Chivvi, and the Yevusi, seven nations greater and mightier than you;


Else if you do at all go back, and cleave to the remnant of these nations, even these who remain among you, and make marriages with them, and go in to them, and they to you;
