They angered him also at the waters of Merivah, so that Moshe was troubled for their sakes;


They tempted God in their heart by asking food according to their desire.


You called in trouble, and I delivered you. I answered you in the secret place of thunder. I tested you at the waters of Merivah.* Selah.


*Hear, my people, and I will testify to you, Yisra'el, if you would listen to me!


Don't harden your heart, as at Merivah, as in the day of Massah in the wilderness,


Therefore the people quarreled with Moshe, and said, *Give us water to drink.* Moshe said to them, *Why do you quarrel with me? Why do you test the LORD?*


He said, *If now I have found favor in your sight, Lord, please let the Lord go in the midst of us; although this is a stiff-necked people; pardon our iniquity and our sin, and take us for your inheritance.*


Cry aloud and shout, you inhabitant of Tziyon; for the Holy One of Yisra'el is great in the midst of you!*


Her leaders judge for bribes, and her Kohanim teach for a price, and her prophets of it tell fortunes for money: yet they lean on the LORD, and say, *Isn't the LORD in the midst of us? No disaster will come on us.*


because all those men who have seen my glory, and my signs, which I worked in Egypt and in the wilderness, yet have tempted me these ten times, and have not listened to my voice;


These are the waters of Merivah; because the children of Yisra'el strove with the LORD, and he was sanctified in them.


Aharon shall be gathered to his people; for he shall not enter into the land which I have given to the children of Yisra'el, because you rebelled against my word at the waters of Merivah.


because you rebelled against my word in the wilderness of Tzin, in the strife of the congregation, to sanctify me at the waters before their eyes. (These are the waters of Merivah of Kadesh in the wilderness of Tzin.)


The Word became flesh, and lived among us. We saw his glory, such glory as of the one and only Son of the Father, full of grace and truth.


Then my anger shall be kindled against them in that day, and I will forsake them, and I will hide my face from them, and they shall be devoured, and many evils and troubles shall come on them; so that they will say in that day, Haven't these evils come on us because our God is not among us?


Of Levi he said, Your Tummim and your Urim are with your godly one, whom you proved at Massah, with whom you strove at the waters of Merivah;


You shall not tempt the LORD your God, as you tempted him in Massah.


At Tav`erah, and at Massah, and at Kivrot-Hatta'avah, you provoked the LORD to wrath.


Pinechas the son of El`azar the Kohen said to the children of Re'uven, and to the children of Gad, and to the children of Menasheh, This day we know that the LORD is in the midst of us, because you have not committed this trespass against the LORD: now have you delivered the children of Yisra'el out of the hand of the LORD.
