They said, *Come, let's build ourselves a city, and a tower whose top reaches to the sky, and let's make ourselves a name, lest we be scattered abroad on the surface of the whole earth.*


When the people saw that Moshe delayed to come down from the mountain, the people gathered themselves together to Aharon, and said to him, *Come, make us gods, which shall go before us; for as for this Moshe, the man who brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we don't know what has become of him.*


The tree grew, and was strong, and the height of it reached to the sky, and the sight of it to the end of all the earth.


Yet I destroyed the Amori before them, whose height was like the height of the cedars, and he was strong as the oaks; yet I destroyed his fruit from above, and his roots from beneath.


They went up by the South, and came to Chevron; and Achiman, Sheshai, and Talmai, the children of `Anak, were there. (Now Chevron was built seven years before Tzo`an in Egypt.)


Speak to the children of Yisra'el, and tell them, When you pass over the Yarden into the land of Kena`an,


Where are we going up? our brothers have made our heart to melt, saying, The people are greater and taller than we; the cities are great and fortified up to the sky; and moreover we have seen the sons of the `Anakim there.


then will the LORD drive out all these nations from before you, and you shall dispossess nations greater and mightier than yourselves.


For you are to pass over the Yarden to go in to possess the land which the LORD your God gives you, and you shall possess it, and dwell therein.


It shall be on the day when you shall pass over the Yarden to the land which the LORD your God gives you, that you shall set yourself up great stones, and plaster them with plaster:


I commanded you at that time, saying, the LORD your God has given you this land to possess it: you shall pass over armed before your brothers the children of Yisra'el, all the men of valor.


Now, Yisra'el, listen to the statutes and to the ordinances, which I teach you, to do them; that you may live, and go in and possess the land which the LORD, the God of your fathers, gives you.


to drive out nations from before you greater and mightier than you, to bring you in, to give you their land for an inheritance, as at this day.


It shall be, when the LORD your God shall bring you into the land which he swore to your fathers, to Avraham, to Yitzchak, and to Ya`akov, to give you, great and goodly cities, which you didn't build,


When the LORD your God shall bring you into the land where you go to possess it, and shall cast out many nations before you, the Chittite, and the Girgashi, and the Amori, and the Kena`ani, and the Perizzi, and the Chivvi, and the Yevusi, seven nations greater and mightier than you;


*Pass through the midst of the camp, and command the people, saying, 'Prepare food; for within three days you are to pass over this Yarden, to go in to possess the land, which the LORD your God gives you to possess it.'*


until the LORD has given your brothers rest, as he has given you, and they also have possessed the land which the LORD your God gives them: then you shall return to the land of your possession, and possess it, which Moshe the servant of the LORD gave you beyond the Yarden toward the sunrise.


Now therefore give me this hill country, of which the LORD spoke in that day; for you heard in that day how the `Anakim were there, and cities great and fortified: it may be that the LORD will be with me, and I shall drive them out, as the LORD spoke.


It happened, when the people removed from their tents, to pass over the Yarden, the Kohanim who bore the ark of the covenant being before the people;


that the waters which came down from above stood, and rose up in one heap, a great way off, at Adam, the city that is beside Tzaretan; and those that went down toward the sea of the `Aravah, even the Salt Sea, were wholly cut off: and the people passed over right against Yericho.


Yehoshua spoke to the Kohanim, saying, Take up the ark of the covenant, and pass over before the people. They took up the ark of the covenant, and went before the people.


The people came up out of the Yarden on the tenth day of the first month, and encamped in Gilgal, on the east border of Yericho.


and Yehoshua said to them, Pass over before the ark of the LORD your God into the midst of the Yarden, and take up every man of you a stone on his shoulder, according to the number of the tribes of the children of Yisra'el;
